Next year I'm going to put a scope on the muzzleloader with quick detach rings so that I can have it on during the shotgun season and take it off during muzzleloading and not lose the zero. I've decided on the very good, but expensive, Talley base and rings and I'm wondering about glass.

I am wondering if anyone has one of these T/C scopes or have checked them out. They claim they are built to handle the recoil from high power muzzleloaders and I'm wondering it that's different than the normal recoil most scopes are built for and if its similar to shotgun recoil which I know they make specific scopes for (which I have one of already). I don't think it kicks like a shotgun, but I've not measured any recoil ever...

Just curious if anyone has seen these scopes are looked at various scopes for muzzleloading. Thinking 1.5-5 power range...

It would probably make sense to go with a scope that's designed for a shotgun if you don't get the TC scope. I'm thinking about doing the same thing next year and will probably go with the Nikon Shotgun Scope. Little higher price, Little higher quality, but you get what you pay for in optics. This way I can always just change my mind and mount it on my shotgun.

I already have a Nikon on my shotgun... This is just another toy to add to the collection of choices for armaments!

Lawdog...

You get what you pay for by buying in the higher priced scope range....I know you know that. I think though, that the maunufacturers want people to look at scopes much like tackle manufacturers want people to look at ice tackle. In that regard, recoil is recoil. If it will stand up to a shotgun slugs recoil or that of a 300 winnie, it will tolerate a stink stick's nudge.

Well, I went with another Nikon Scope for the smoke pole. I have been real satisfied with their products at a better price than Leupold...

I did go with the top of the line in rings and bases for the quick detach system as I think that some QD setups are a possible weak link. I got Talley's. The price is up there, but they are custom built bases for each particular gun and there isn't a better scope mounting system out there that I'm aware of.

I'm intending to sit on stand with this gun in the shotgun season next year scoped up and then remove the scope and rings and hunt with it open for muzzleloader season. Couple this with my new bow Christmas present from my sweety and I'm all set up for '06!!!!
