Phalen Event

Recommended Posts

I am just trying to get a feel of the interest level to have a metro get together on lake Phalen. I thought it would be a nice central place to meet some fellow FMers. The lake has a good pike population for you tip up guys and a good walleye population. I know it also supports a good panfish population but no idea where they might be hiding.

Just respond with interest, date, and prefered time frame. the ice should be a good 6-10" in the next few weeks. I was thinking perhaps a Saturday from 12:00-6:00 for the dusk walleye bite or early morning to 12:00 on as Sunday.

I prefer a Saturday event. Nothing like a nice evening bite. I say we either have to do it this weekend (the 17th) or wait until the 31st or maybe even into Jan. I'd like to have it this weekend but don't think the ice would be ready yet.

I agree with Saturday. This weekend may be a bit early for Phalen. I will however be getting out somewhere for a few hours.

I'm ready anytime, but I AM 16, so school's a factor. I like the Saturday idea because of late-night fishing too, sounds like fun.

Mr. Pike 1 -

I attended the event on Phalen a couple years back. It was a cold day but I met some great FM'ers and still fish with them today. If your having an event, count me in. I used to live only a couple blocks from the lake and have always done OK on the walleyes. Usually from around 4:30-6PM. Set a date and if I'm available, I'll be there.

I might be able to make the evening bite on Saturday.

I will more than likely make it over there. Depending on the weekend of course.

I'll attend the Phalen event as it is only a mile from home. This weekend or any other are open. Please post details.

I've heard some reports from Phalen, but has anyone been out to see how much ice there actually is?

I have a buddy who lives less than a block from Phalen. If it is a saturday event, we would be able to make it for sure. He is selling his house too, so if your interested in a house close to phalen...

I am glad to see the interest level to hit a local fishery. I would like for it to be this Saturday however I do not think the ice is safe on this body of water yet and I do not want a fun event to have a tragic end.

The 24th would not work for me as I have family commitments.

So I am tentatively setting the date for Saturday 12/31/05 from lets say 1:00-6:00.

Hope this works for many. Others could certainly meet up on the 24th as well.

I can't make it the 31st. Xmas at moms house on the other side of the state. I'll be there in spirit however.

Been a few years since I fished Phalen. Any weekend except the 31st would have worked for me. Will be hiding out at LOW that weekend. But now that I know Phalen's still putting out the walleyes I will be sure to hit it once or twice. Hopefully see some FM people on the lake. Luck to all and be safe.

Hey Mr. Pike, I'm in! The wife has to work until 3PM on the 31st, but I could hit the door running when she comes home.

Max, I put up a new post to vote. Many did not seem able to make it on the 31st. It is now looking like most can do the 1/7/05 date to kick of the new year. I hope you can attend. It has been fun over the years meeting FMers at events or out at a boat launch.

Heading up to LV a week from today with the kids. Any advice for us? Staying on the West side but open to traveling if the weather permits.   The way the last few weeks have gone, might stay for good!!!

Do have Wi-Fi in your house. Your going to need that to work with any of the cameras that send a signal and video to your phone.  Hardwire is the best but battery power workers well for about two months then you have to pull them and recharge them.  It is nice to sit on a beach in Key West and keep an eye on your house when gone! 👌

With all the craziness in the world I’m looking at getting an outdoor security camera setup for my home. Anyone have ideas on what works well without a huge cost  and easy to do . Or is it better to go with a company to set it up.  We have recently had copper thefts in the area at farmers fields and bin sites and I know it will only gat worse as these things always do. I probably want something that hooks up to my phone as well and wondering if there is a good one with either battery life or if wired is better. Any thoughts are welcome.

Aren't they the ones that ran into problems about illegal bait? Anyone know how that turned out?

You launch on Moose Lake to get to the motorized portage. It's called Prairie portage. To get to the portage you put in at Moose Lake. From Moose you go into Newfound Lake. From Newfound you go into Sucker Lake. On Sucker is where Prairie portage is. There is a dock on the American side and on the Canadian side there is big sign welcoming you to Canada. Latourell's Resort runs the portage and the cost for the portage is $40 for a round trip.

Will that blond haired kid have that cool little orange boat in the show this weekend? Saw him driving around by Muskego Point a few times this summer.

      Hey  stranger!!👌

Nope, there are parts of Basswood that allow motors.   Entry is from Fall Lake, and there is (I think) a motorized portage.   It is really popular in the spring...
