Adrian's 12/9/05 Report - Awesome!

Recommended Posts

Pulled my portable out of Adrian's Friday morning with 4-wheeler, over Pine, and set-up in 19 ft. of water (12.5" ice). Within 5 minutes of drilling holes, caught a nice 25" eye. Action never stopped from there. By 12:30 I had caught 40-45 walleye, 6 under 12", 4 over 20", and the rest in between - biggest was a 29" (thought hard about putting him on the wall, but took photos and released it). Only 4 caught on the set line, the rest jigging with spoons, rapala's, and airplane jigs - tipped with head of chub or shiner. Color didn't seem to matter, but aggresiveness did. Pulled most all of them from tight off to the bottom, up 1-2 ft. before they'd hit. Bouncing of the bottom and jigging rapidly until they came up, then lightly jigging to get them to bite.

At 12:30 I had 4 nice eyes in the bucket, released over 40, but not 1 sauger. Headed out to deeper weater, 23' (12" ice) and set up again. Within 5 minutes, had another eye and my 1st sauger. Stayed there for little over an hour until I had my 4 (14-16") sauger, with 7 more eyes in between. I ice fish about 3 days a week, and this was the BEST day on the ice (after walleye) I've ever had.

IN GENERAL: The two spots I fished had 12-12.5" of good ice. Again, I drove out a 4-wheeler, but a lot of people had cars, small trucks or SUV's (a lot pulling out perm. houses). I imagine through this past weekend, it got pretty busy out there. The ice was pretty decent to about a mile past Pine, then you get to the real choppy "giant corn flakes" - tough terrain. At this point, nobody had even tried to go out much further.

It was a sportsman's dream day - on the ride home (I. Falls) I saw a big 10-12 pt. buck running across the river from Canada. I hope some of you might have shared a similar experiance...

Drew: Thanks for sharing your report, man sounds like you were a busy boy out there. Headed up two weeks from today hope the bite holds on until then. Man that must have been a great time. Good luck and hold onto your rod. Bill

I had one trip to LOW that was alot like that, but I didn't have the big fish mixed in. By the end of our fishing day, we were ripping little peices of minnows up, just so there was a little scent on our hooks and still hammered em' till we ran out of bait completely. Not sure of the exact date, but it was around this same time of year just past pine island.

Way to go, glad you had such a great trip. A trip like that doesn't happen all the time! wink.gif

I also fished out of Adrians on Sat. and Sun. We were in there houses. Same water about 19 ft. Didnt do as good as you by the sounds of it, but did well. We caught alot of fish, and had a good meal. Came home with a limit, biggest fish for us was a 25 1/2 inch. Sounds like the water is dirty and cloudy up around the Morris, and Long Point area. they said the fishing was not as good up that way!!

Great report.

Though we didn't do quite as well as you, our group of 5 found enough fish to make it interesting for the weekend!
