waskas not ready yet but i've been out to emily several times already ice fishing and i think pelican is getting real close it will be a little bit for waska to catch up but with the forcasted temps all the lakes should freez soon. I had about 4 inches on emily and 2.5 on pelican

THe glenwood side of waska has been froze up for a while (Just the bay) and most of the lake is still whitecapps but its still freezin up none the less . Wont be long hope this wind goes flat and we get some clear skies then we will all be ice fishin. grin.gif (No fish Left in Emily)

Whoa.........

I am told there are many portables out on reno now. Y'all be careful - y'hear! shocked.gif

I hit the north end of Reno on Friday. 5 to 6 inches of ice. Couple of perch and one crappie.

Posted

How's the west end out from the public access? Is there anyone using the the old campground access on the west shore? How's the ice?

Posted

Went out on the north end in front of the reno villa's; there was about 6"s of ice with four wheelers pulling permanent houses out. Fished in about 16' feet and only caught two small walleyes, a couple of perch, and a nice 13" crappie. A little slow, but nice to be out again; action died right before dark. Talked to another guy that got two nice eyes out in the middle of the bay on the north end.

Anyone been out on the south end of the lake yet?

Thanks Prairiefire. smile.gif What access were you using. Are guys going over to the north side from the public access on the southwest corner?

P.F. is your dad ice fishing this year? I tried to call him, about some locale rooster chasing, but he was out of town.

Four Wheelers pulling permanents out on Reno? Are these big permanents or small ones....

I drive by Reno everyday. There are some pretty good sized housed out there. At least 6x12 and a couple that were larger.

Was on reno tonight, west end a good 8-9 inches of ice. Two nice eyes 16"-17" a couple small ones and some perch. Fairly slow, going to try Ida tomorrow.

Posted

Glad to see someone is having some luck. What depth were you fishing? Was there any size to the perch?

Posted

was gonna try reno tomorrow but a buddy backed out..anyone wanna meet up for an afternoon/evening of fishing?

Went on Reno Saturday morning. small perch and nothing else. lots of big houses out and a small car even ventured out about 300 yards.

Hey Bassmasher, I'm from the same town. Grew up there lived there my whole life. Watching the kid today decided to let the wife go today. Maybe we can hook up and hook up some eyes. Not much for b-(Contact US Regarding This Word) though. grin.gif Put the house out on Reno on Thursday-- slow one eye and few small perch. With the same holes the fishing was great on Saturday with the weather. My wife and Brother-in-Law are up at Reno as this morning and they weren't biting at all!! Fishing is real funny sometimes. Brother was on Waska on Thursday and it was SSSLLLLOOOWWW and yesterday they bit real well, same spot. Fish were maybe biting all over.

Earlier in the day a Ford Crown Victoria drove in the West public and drove by all the houses and went accross Pelican Point back into the North bay. What an (Contact US Regarding This Word)!! He drove less than 100 yards right off the end of the point, driving at least 35 MPH.

I was on Reno yesterday from 3- 7. Not a bite! I am new to the area and this is my first time on Reno. Seems like lots of houses off the access on 29. I drilled tons of holes but it seemed the depth was always 12' - 14' of water. Does it get deeper in that area?

Alex Walleye Man.

Here is a tip. Go out in front of the Green Iguana in 15-17 feet. Jig a swedish pimple w/ a fathead todd on one line and a tip-up w/ a shiner recliner.

We have been catching limits of 18-20 inch fish every time out. It is not a secret any more.

Good luck

BassPirate,

Glad to hear they are still going. I was starting to wonder if they quit biting. We plan to be in the area again this weekend. One of the guys has never been ice fishing, so I hope the walleyes continue to cooperate.

Will you be on Reno between now and Sat?

Does anyone know if it would be safe to drive along shore (south) from the access to my spot and then walk to my fishing holes? With this snow it will be a long walk hauling all my gear. How was the ice? Was it sloppy out there? I will be out Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Posted

I too would like to get out there this weekend. I had surgery this fall and have a hard time of it this year pulling out to even the closest spots and this snows gonna cripple things up for me if we dont get enough ice too get out there soon. I drove on waska a few times where there is 10 inches of ice but it dont take long for ten to turn into 6 or less in many areas of the lake, id expect the same for many lakes this year so be careful we got another 4 inches of snow today to further the problems of pulling gear out there, and slow the ice making. I hope it gets real cold real soon so we can all get to our favorite spots easier and safer.

Guy's don't drive on any of the lakes yet... period. It just is not safe. If you want to get out and do some ice fishing and do not mind catching panfish drop me an email to my site and I will give you a couple of lakes around the Alex area that have ok to good pannies going and they are a short walk from shore.

Upper Red’s been doing what she does—giving up fish if we’re out there early and paying attention.   Walleye bite’s solid in 6 to 9 feet, especially just off the breaks. Pre-dawn into first light is where it’s at. Shiners on a slow drift—still the ticket.   Later in the day, it slows down, but if we move around and work those inside turns or subtle drops, we can still find fish.   It’s not complicated—just good spring fishing. Clean air, steady water, and enough bites to make it worth the drive.

Leech made you earn it this week. Wind moved through most days, shifting the bait. Walleyes were spotty, but a few were pulled around Sand Point and Goose Island with slow jigs and shiners—nothing fancy, just working the spots slow.   Crappies gave a nice surprise one calm evening in the flooded reeds—5 to 8 feet, little pink jig under a slip bobber. When they showed up, it was fast and fun for about a half hour.   The trick right now? Stay patient and don’t overthink it. Leech’ll give up fish, just not to folks in a rush.

Mille Lacs was steady—not fast, but steady. Walleyes are hitting in 6 to 12 feet, especially on gravel edges with a bit of weed growth. A plain red hook and leech is still the go-to—keeps things simple and productive.   Best bite’s been early morning or just before dusk. Cloud cover helps. Smallmouth are starting to show on rock piles and wind-blown points, but they’re not fired up yet. A few more warm days, and they’ll be on.   Overall? Not a lights-out bite, but a good, honest day if we put the time in.

Greetings,   My buddy and I are headed to the Big V in early June. We've been up there the last two years around the same time. The one fish that eludes us is, surpringly, bluegill.   Here in my home state of Nebraska, if I throw a beetle spin into any sort of structure from spring to fall, I'm guaranteed to catch decent sized bluegill and the occasional crappie. When we're at vermilion, however, we only catch bass and a rare perch on the beetle spins.   Can anyone help me understand why this is? We've tried every shallow structure we can find but we've never caught a single blue. This type of lake is entirely different to what we normally fish (and way colder) so I'm completely unfamiliar with their habits.   I would also love to know where the crappie are during this time of year. We mostly target bass and walleye, but, we'd love to have some ultralight fun with panfish.   Thanks!

Their dad's got that covered!  👌
