WMA's near twin cities

Well we didn't get any deer all weekend for our area in zone 1 for our group of 6, one guy saw a nub buck, but didn't shoot it. I was going to try a WMA near Carlos Avery one day this week. I have a multi-zone buck tag, and was going to buy a bonus tag so I could shoot a doe. Just wondering how you can tell if an area is closed to shotgun slugs? I called the DNR and they said the only one she knew that didn't allow single projectile firearms was the bayport WMA, but I have found a few others on the DNR website as well. Does anyone know of an easier way to tell? Also this might sound like a dumb question to some, but is Carlos Avery somewhat quiet during the week, or do people hit it pretty hard non-stop since it is a LARGE WMA that is so close to the cities?

Carlos is pretty quite during the weekday mornings, but the afternoons are busy somewhat. Bayport is open for taking deer ONLY by archery.
