Island Lake Hawg Walleye Hunt Review

Recommended Posts

I had the privelage to fish this great event with some fellow FMers and a few lurkers.

I would like to thank BD110, his brother JR, Dave and his wife Cindy for a fun weekend. The weather was tough with big winds and rain but we made the best of it.

Island Lake has all sorts of fun places to stop and have shorelunch and we took advantage of some of them regularly this weekend. Nothing like a hot braut, some of Cindys salads or some of that PBR Light of JR's. Good friends and good food = great times. Thanks guys.

Ripstick it was nice to meet you and you guys are doing a great job with this contest and I hope the Boyscouts know how lucky they are to have guys like you to do the leg work to put this thing on. I hope next year is even better.

As far as a fish report there isnt much to talk about. I struggled finding anything bigger than 15". Lots of fish but not much bigger than the baits I was pulling.

BD110 rubbed off the skunk of day 1 and got himself a 5# northern and that made him happier than catching a eye. Now its time to pickle that bad boy up Tom. For those of you who havent had BD110's pickled Northern your missing out.

I hear he is selling the recipe to anyone who wants it. wink.gif

Dave and Cindy also found fish but nothing bigger than 16.5"er but stumbled across Crappies. BONUS

JR was too bussy drying off from his day one soaking in the boat waves and rain. He did manage a few small eyes as well.

Overall nobody I knew hooked anything worth weighing in but we still had a blast. Next year guys we do like the Fisherman Corner/Toolcrib guys and deep fry fish on day 1. We can do ours at MN. Power Landing.

See ya all next year.

P.S. Those who didnt fish this year I suggest trying it out. Heck a chance at $1000 for $10 is a no brainer. grin.gif

Also a huge THANKS to ToolCrib of the North for their HUGE donations as well as Chalstroms, Fishermans Corner, Russ at Marine General, Island Lake Inn and all others who donated all the great prizes. Man I couldnt believe all the Prizes.

JR my wife didnt even ask what happened to the Umbrella I traded ya for the Leech Tamer and Reel. grin.gif

Steve, sounds like you guys had a good time and it was for a good cause. Any idea what the biggest walleye was or any bonus muskies?

I think biggest eye was 7pounds 15 ounces. 10th place was 3 pounds 6 ounces. My biggest was lucky to break the pound mark. grin.gif Didnt see or hear of any Musky. With all the trolling of sticks and cranks its a surprise that nobody hooked a Ski.

Don't take me wrong, I'm not anti-technology.  Battery powdered items will always have their place.  I'm mean you don't want your girl friend or wife in the bedroom playing for their gas powered adult toys!!  That would be a bit loud and smokey!

That’s right. My 84 year old dad loves his electric chain saw. Light weight and quiet. Besides, at his age he’s not cutting a bunch. Where as myself I want something with more power and heavier duty.  Look at how many people have switched back to gasoline cars after running one in winter if you travel a lot.   As long as my strike master works I’ll keep using gas. Maybe my next will be electric, but who knows,  you can find used gas ones pretty reasonable as others buy electric.

I think electric items have their places, I just don't think large commercial jobs are going to be able to work well with them. Can't see a logging crew out in the woods all day changing batteries!
