OK Speak up boyz!!! let's see who has the cahones to show.... Just joking grin.gif Seriously it would be great to have a bunch of us fish this stretch. There is habitat galore up here. Kieth, gullguide and Whiskers... sorry you guys can't make it.... I hear ya on the gas prices though.

I checked with DNR waters/the CO and marking the channel won't be an issue. I will just plan on it for a safe "damage free" event. Anything else....?

SH and KT, unfortunately I am out. I have to travel out of the country and it isn't to fish, doggone it. My son Ryan also is out. I was really looking forward to the day with KT as it is always good to get some driving lessons as well as some exercise pushing the boat off sand bars. You guys will tear them up and I know you will have a good time. Enjoy and be safe.

I might be in but need a boating partner that will let me tag along... I'll work the angles with the lady and have an answer this week.

I'm probably out, although I was never in. It's more of an on-call issue than the new baby. After being off for so long, I shouldn't request more off time just after I get back. So maybe Riverwader can make it and I'll stay back and cover for him.

big mike....there are LOTS of spots to wade around in. I'll probably have my two sons along, and wouldn't have room for another. However, I'd be glad to drop you off at some good wading spots, and assist in moving you around too. Now, if you get that 20" fish, you'll need to call someone else to bring you back to Wilson Park, unless of course I catch one bigger.

I would also be interested in finding an open seat. Anyone have a spot?

Later,

I have two on the hook for an open seat. If neither one bites, I'll post. KT

Any water in the river up there? The USGS site doesn't look very promising for anything but a RP.

The lower half is very fishable for prop boats. No problem whatsoever.

Several things happening here the 10th. Most likely I'll have to miss this one. Kevin

I am going to have to opt out on this one. I am inroute to New Orleans today to help get communications back up to the area. I will pass off the magnet trophy to the winner when I return in 2 weeks.

KT, I was saying to my wife the other day while watching the news...They needs some RiverPros down there! They could cover a lot of water fast, save more lives.

Good Luck to those going down to help out. Be Safe and thanks for your service!

Man dropping like flies.... or maybe acorns (see my mind is turing to deer already)... Anyway, we'll miss y'all there.... for a good cause though.

To others...We still plan on having the event at Wilson Park When: Saturday September 10, 7:30AM-3:30PM. Remember this is for fun, comaradre, and a little friendly competition... Even though the fishing has been variable as of late, I think it should be a good time.

So interested at this point

Seems as though we ought to be able to get some folks on the reservoir portion and the boulder field based on what I am seeing here..... Just a thought. Again, I will be marking the "tricky" spots through the rapids to aid in navigation (not that you should go flyin' through with a prop MSRD grin.gif) I will post through late Fri night on latest info...

If for some reason I can't make it I will get HT's table up there and help whatever way you need in the afternoon. I'm working on this weekend now.

Yeah, we'll have to see about the trip for me... Gas $$, big bass pot, plus I don't have a guaranteed seat so just a lot of things up in the air for me to try to convince the lady at this point. If I had a seat I might be more inclined to present my case to the judge tongue.gif LOL. But at thie point I'm a 50/50.

In the prop days I fished the stretch from below the Sauk Rapids bridge to the high school a lot. Plenty of water with smallies. Not the numbers but we would get some dandys.

Just got word that my buddy might be bringing my boat up if he gets it fixed. I had a little trouble with a rock and the back of the boat, nothing a tig welder cant fix. I guess I choose the right guy to pick as my fishing partner. Just an FYI I have been in Plano, TX for 2 days and am heading for New Orleans tomorrow. I will try to get online tomorrow with some pictures.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
