Recommended Posts

Thinking to hit Mink/Somers (outside Monticello) for Bass saturday. Anyone tried this lake for Bass? Any suggestions?

I was out there this past weekend. Caught several good size bass. Saw a lot of fish jumping on the surface. Can't tell if what they are, maybe bass maybe carp. The water is very dirty and it stinks. One lake is very shallow, the other is alright. Keep in mind it's catch and release for bass. Regulation indicates only 1 under 12 inch may be taken. Good luck!

Mink has a lot of weeds on the NE side and is very shallow. Find the weeds and you'll find some big bass.

I was out on Mink for about 1 hour this afternoon and couldn't believe the stink and weed die off going out there. We fished all around the island on Mink and didn't catch a thing. Any tips on find some bass in these lakes?!??

Lake was real green on top.

I'd have to agree with madmax22 on this one seeing though he is my fishing partner ... Stay on Mink head north that's where you'll find deeper water stay in about 15-18ft cast in to the 10ft area and work your lure out .. throw plastic worms , craws ,and you should do good

That lake is nasty right now. The algae bloom is crazy. Water looks like Pea Soup. I was talking to a shore lot owner yesterday and he said that creeks feeding the lake have runoff from about 16 farms. They hope in the next couple of years to find a solution to this.

I personally feel that these two lakes are way too regulated and overrated these days! Sure there are some nice fish in there but who wants to jump through all of the hoops and go through all the hassle to fish it when there are so many other nice lakes near by!

Some decent LMB's in Mink (special regs) these days. CPR'ed this one tonight right at sunset, a solid 17.5", on a senko rigged wacky. Algae is down. So is the water level. Be careful between basins, and the launch is shallow.

Nice fish federline! I knew with the C&R regs. in place there had to be some nice fish in the lake.

Just that dang algae and stink to the lake that kills a guy grin.gif

Thanks Capt! FWIW, she don't stink much now, and where we were, the water was more brown than green, and there were greener parts of the lake than where this fish was caught. But the algae is all gone, nothing left to stick to things.

Opener was decent on Saturday and absolutely on fire Sunday. 9 eyes, three over 25 in, one at 28.5. A bunch of largemouths, some crappie and perch and a TON of bullhead. One of those weekends where your hands start to hurt.

I'm quite happy since I'm going fishing with a pal for the first time in a long time. We plan to purchase some clothing for it, such as exclusive hoodies.

The majority of docks can't be put it. Water is over the top of pretty much every permanent dock.  Very few docks are in.

Crappies are all up shallow in the south metro. Caught this one shore fishing with a beetle spin from a more secluded lake without much access. All of the crappies were between 7-9 inches with this 11.5" being the exception

A co-worker reported they had some the best fishing ever on V last weekend.  Trolling 6-8 feet in the morning with HJ10’s.  Where the water temps were in the mid/low 50’s

Those campsites are right across the water from us. Seem pretty well protected and I haven't heard of challenging over there. Holiday weekends they fill up very fast

My son camped on Hinsdale with his aluminum runabout. Nice site but walking across the hull parked on uneven ground he separated a couple of the rivets.

Thanks "Skunked Again!" I searched old posts and it sounds like my fiberglass boat might not be the best rig for Hinsdale. Still, would appreciate more advice/input.

I don't know about either of them, but welcome to the forum.

I destroyed my main propeller saving a neighbors dock section from ramming my other neighbor's dock. Definitely watch out for each other out there.   Raven77 - on the plus side of the high water, the floating swim platform that you sold me the other year was able to just float off of the rocks that I had beached it on. No need to do any heavy lifting this season! I'm glad that I tied it to a tree as usual.
