Gulp Crawlers

Recommended Posts

Has anyone used any of the new Gulp "crawlers" on Kab or Namaka? I seen on tv that they were using them on Rainy with Lindy rigs, but of course the show was sponsored by Berkley. We are heading up there next week and was wondering if it would be worthwile to bring some along....

Hillbiehle...

I like them, great for putting on a small jig and pitching for smallmouth...as far as a Lindy and Gulp, I simply use the real nightcrawlers...if I ran out though I would give it a shot!

I have used Power crawlers on lindys and Gulp minnows and Power grubs on jigs with success on Rainy but don't think I've tried the Gulp crawlers there. I have tried Gulp crawlers on other waters unsuccessfully. I like the Powerbait products better because I've had as good or better success and they don't dry out like Gulp does.

Last week I was up there hammering the eyes on real crawlers. After I ran out of the real ones I switched to the gulp and did just as well. The only difference was the size of the fish seemed to be a little bigger on the gulp. It's hard to say for sure but I caught 12 fish on the live bait, 2 were in the slot and all the others were between 18.5" and 22". After switching to the gulp, I got 10 more between 19" and 24.5". It could be that bigger fish where just moving in but who knows. I certainly wouldn't shy away from the gulp, but if your dealing with a tough bite I would definitely have the real stuff on hand.

I have a Weboost cellular amplifier at Wakemup Bay. It increases the signal from 1 bar or less to 3-4 bars BUT there is more to the story than bars. For data (like streaming video) I get faster data speeds WITHOUT using my booster. The reason as I understand it is that cellular data transmits and receives on multiple channels simultaneously (its called Multi-In-Multi-Out or MIMO.) Most boosters only amplify a single channel at a time. While the phone shows a good signal from the booster it can actually reduce the data speeds that are available with MIMO transmissions. A booster can improve your voice communications while diminishing your data speeds. You might want to look at the Mobile Internet Resource Center on YouTube for a better explanation.

57 in Black Bay and 44 in Niles Bay today.  The lake is changing by the day and the fishing reflects it.

So sorry, wish I could boat over to help. I think we will wait an extra week to head north.  Prayers for a good resolution.

Good morning Mtnman. Yes, the whole rainy lake watershed is under a flood warning. Water is as high as it was back in 2014. Forecast is that is should peak around May 20. All the ice went out last week with all the wind and rain we had. My dock didn’t make it though. Ice blew in and lift the whole thing, crib and all. Mother Nature…adds another project once the water is warm enough to work in. This week looks a little drier…I hope! Safe travels when you do head North.

The water was over 22 at the very south end of Mud and the overflow pond. I took that route to get to the cabin, I just moved the signs and drove through, saw a couple carp sunbathing on the warm road. 😂
