Crappies and Gills

We're coming up Saturday for a week stay. Are the crappies and gills still in the shallows and will they still be there then? Weather looks bad, rain five days in a row.

I don't usually fish for them, but this time of the year, it's about as fun as fishing can get. I was up last weekend, and there where more crappies up then gills. I don't know if they left, or hadn't gone in yet. My guess is the latter. Water wasn't 60 yet, so I'd say it's a pretty good bet they'll be up in the shallows still, and from what I could tell it seemed the crappies I had caught were males. They weren't all beat up and blackened from being shallow for a while, so I imagine a lot of them were just coming up.

But, with the weather the way it's been it is very hard to fish the shallows, no sun and wind isn't a great combo for shallow water panfish. I sight fish them, so calm water and sun really helps, it's almost a necessity. I don't have the patience to watch a bobber for too long. As soon as it would flatten out though, I would catch a little pod of crappies.

Any lake recomended most in this area for good Crappie and Gill fishing?

Try Dead Lake. Good crappies and bull gills this time of year.

I've always had pretty good luck on dead for sunnies and crappies too.. good luck fishin' TB
