Pike Lake Fishing Derby?

I'm new to fishing in the area, but I was wondering what this was? I see advertisements for it everywhere. I was wondering what it costs to enter, and when it's being held. That, and rules, if anyone has a page they can refer me to, or could maybe just fill me in that'd be much appreciated.

It is a charity cie contest, with proceeds going to UMD athletics. I think that tickets are $30 and prizes shoudl be listed on the posters all over town. If not call Gander Mtn as I believe they are a sponsor also. Xplorer

thank you much, geez, now I know how they can afford to give away 60 grand in prizes. they'll still be 30 grand up if they get the 3000 they want.

I work at RJs sport and cycle, in the part dept. We have flyers that you can have. It is indeed 30 bucks a head. I fished it last year. Your fishing area is limited to within the circle they plow. It is held right out from the public landing, and the circle extends out from there, but does not go beyond the large point on the left about halfway up the lake. I could not beleive that not one single person weighed a pike. I thought for sure a snake northern would win it, but as it turned out, a .87, or something like that, perch took the grand prize. Matter of fact, the guy right behind us, about 30 yards away won the thing. Two foot difference in depth. I, and alot of others, didn't catch a fish at all. Didn't even see one on the depth finder. If you do it, which I don't think I will be, the deepest water will be way out,and off to the left side. You are allowed to check depths early, and pick a hole. They said it would be a shotgun start, but it didn't work that way. Then, just after the thing started, some people were complaining there wasn't enough holes, and the idiots obliged, and came over a drilled some holes right where the people wanted them to. I raised hell, told them I wanted a couple more a little deeper, they said, nope, sorry. What a crock. Hope they do it better this time around, last year was the first year.

Correction, the deepest water is way out and to the right, not the left, sorry.

How early do you have to get there? It starts at noon, but what does that really mean?

Last year I was scouting at 11. Turns out, I was one of the first ones there. It might be different this year, I'm not sure. I looked for the deeper water hoping to weigh a perch or two. Turns out, I wasn't quite deep enough. The people that were in real shallow water didn't get anything. Like I said, that surprised me. I thought for sure a pike would win. Good Luck
