trying to reply to splake and lakers but won't post here's my reply
Echo is a very popular lake and there will be a lot of people there sat. opener
Just a hop up the road and a short walk (won't need snowshoes yet) is goldeneye a brooky lake
Another short hop is Hare with browns its right next to the road and you can use live minnows
A couple of miles form there is the Trestle for a brew and burger
I drove by Echo last weekend and the ice looked fine and there were sno-scooters on Hare
There are many lakes in the area for all species of fish

Thanks for the info on the lakes near Echo. The country sure is beautiful. How are those lakes in the spring/summer/fall? I wanted to get to echo the past weekend, but couldn't talk my Uncle into going. We fished Thomas. It was slow and we caught only 9 crappies and one Northern in 7 hours, but hey, it was better than watching TV. I don't think Thomas is a real barnburner of a fish factory, at least, they seem hard to catch! I love those splake and might try Echo next weekend! Jim

The lakes in the area are all others,hot at times,you should have been here last week.
Have fished alot of them a little consentrating on one that I forget the name of.
Middle of august til freeze up is when I usually have the best luck for walleye.Not a lot of crappies and gills in the area,mainly walley and northern and a few nice trout lakes
If you make it up this weekend and fishing is slow on echo you might want to swing over to divide the dnr stocks rainbow and in 98 started splake.
