hopefully I will have my son Ryan with me; especially if I want to catch any fish LOL. If none of my buddies jump on I will welcome a passenger. Now you would have to ride in my jon boat jet, not one of those fancy and fast RP's.

I have made the corrections on the previous post to show the updated group.

Here is a photo of last year's group. I hope to see some of you guys back out there this year!

Man dirtydog and eye wish we could be there too so we could put the pressure on all of you! wink.gif Here is the 19 incher I got last year. She just might be 1/2 inch bigger this year if she ate good! Maybe a wicked storm will move in and you'll have to change the date. smile.gif I'll bet you locals recognize that rock in the background.

I know where that spot is. The water was really low then. I'm riding in HT's jet rig that day!

We're assuming RW will have his own boat by then. Which would mean SH and BLB would be riding in a new RP. shocked.gif

Now the question is: is BLB in for sure? and if the new RiverPro comes in for Smallie Hawgin will Riverwader be there for the smallie magnet event?

If so we could have a real solid turn out! a dozen or so guys is a solid group and I look forward to the friendly competition and the BBQ to follow. HT you still bringing the grill? I plan on bringing some stuff to throw on it! Might need another with a group that size... I might be able to throw the weber in the truck if we need on... or maybe someone that lives closer could bring theirs.

I'll bring a grill that should suffice. Don't you worry about that!

The plan "was", RW was fishing with me unless he got a River Rig by then. In that case, he would find a partner and EBass will go with me. As far as I know, SH and BLB will be there one way or another, either in River Amatuer or River Pro.

All I can say is I hope flows are below 16,000 by then. This does stink right now. Too much water frown.gif

I was thinking last year was pretty close to normal or lower than normal for most of the season.... A jetters dream. Yeah, about this time last year... 5,000 cfs or so.

Marblei - glad you are going to be able to make it! (I sent you an email by the way). The river is still going to be up but hopefully it will come down sometime soon! This is crazy! Either way it's going to be a great day on the water and a true test of the smallie magnet!

I was out yesterday for a couple of hours.......get this....the water is sooooo high, (otsego/monte strech), I seen a 21ft Lund Tyee go by, on plane, (through the riffle, now rapids just befor monte)!!! He must have launched up at montisippi...could he get something like that in there? I had an incrdible drift back down....NO fish to speak of, but wow...is it moving! Waders will have a time on the 25 if it doesnt settle.

They are predicting some dry weather by end of week...should give it a week to slow down.....(right) Im starting to sound like a "farmer"..(no offense to farmers!) [Either too much water or not enough]

I've seen several big boats with Outboards on that stretch recently, it's crazy. The water was over the pier(the new one) at the Montissippi park today.

I wonder when the last time the water was this high... hopefully this dry week will bring it down a bit.

As of right now here is who I have joining us that Saturday:

1. Hawgtide & Ebass or riverwader (depending on river rig situation)

2. Fonz & BigMike

3. Bill Sloneker & Son

4. Smallie Hawgin & BigLakeBa$$

5. Marblei & partner

6. RiverRat (shore?/boat?)

I know there are some workings going for Riverwader to possibly buy a river rig from a certain someone getting a new river pro (in our magnet group) which may open up another spot and is the reason for Ebass as ???'able with HT or possibly in his own boat. Looks like a dozen guys! Should be a great time - high water or not!

Eyeguy - thanks for the advice on the hat strap... just as long as I don't have to worry about the evinrude pink thong syndrome in that fast boat!

I was going to mention the thong thing but I didn't think you wanted people tp know you wear one. wink.gif

Fonz - thanks for the heads up phone call on the picture... I was expecting a little more... LOL

HMM... toss Fonz out... get an all day pass in the River Pro... I like that idea, that is until the Sheriff rolls up in his River Pro and arrests me - it would be fun while it lasted though! grin.gif

I could be interested in this,I eat up on bringing the Lund up to do prop damage. It's not that way now though, the river's up over the bottom shoreline steps and I have a short dock section going from the 4th step flat to my floater. Yep lotta water, HMMM, BLB's new River Rig could make it to St. Cloud, from my house, with a good guide grin.gif Not recommended if you you don't spend a lot of time on this creek. Could have BBQ here to, there's room for about 5 or 6 boats out front. But I won't clean the house. mad.gifDoc%20thats%20my%20boat.jpg

Gotta get my flag back on the boat. smile.gif

Quick update: Lucky 7 now has rainbows, fatheads, crappie and light pike in stock. If I remember correctly, scoop of rainbows was $8.99.  Stopped at L&M in Virginia. Rainbows $6.99, fatheads and crappie minnows (scoop) $3.99. I was billed $6.99 dozen for rainbows, but was given a healthy scoop!

I have had the same old Strikemaster augers for years, take care of them and they will last a long time.   I think E-augers are nice for around home lakes or at the cabin. The thing that was a eye opener to me was being in D-Rock in New Brighton getting new blades and there were two guys that just got back from a week in Canada on a big ice fishing trip and both very pissed off at their e-augers dying! They were both buying new gas augers.

On the south end...   Things are shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener which takes place Saturday, May 11th.  Recent rain has brought up the water levels, which were low.  The walleyes and saugers are in very good shape across the south shore.  Expectations are high. The goto presentation this weekend will be a jig and frozen emerald shiner or other kind of minnow.  Emerald shiners are a staple in LOW and walleyes love them.     Hook the shiner through the mouth and out the gill.  Push the minnow all the way up to the jig head and hook the minnow as far back as possible.  This will give you a better hooking percentage.     Jig sizes and colors?  This is stained water so you can get away with a big heavier jig, which is nice for those who don't fish a lot.  It enables them to have more control and feel the bottom.  A quarter ounce jig is a good size for starters.     In stained water, gold, glow white, glow red, pink, orange and chartreuse, or a combo of those colors, are great places to start.   The limit of walleyes and saugers is a combined limit of six fish, up to four of the six can be walleyes.  All walleyes between 19.5 - 28.0 inches must be released.  One fish over 28.0 inches can be kept.  The possession limit in MN is one daily limit of fish. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, there will be some good pike caught this weekend.  The pike season on LOW is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one fish allowed more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. On the Rainy River...  Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River has been excellent.  The catch and release season is May 8 - 15.  The keep season starts up again July 1st. FYI, there will be some nice walleyes in the Rainy River for the fishing opener.  Lots of sturgeon anglers are reporting big walleyes being caught on sturgeon rigs! Up at the NW Angle...  Angle resorts are ready to roll for the opener.  As many of you know, this is the area of LOW where the islands begin.  Lots of structure.     Go to spots for walleyes, neck down areas, shoreline breaks, points and bays which will have warmer water.  In true NW Angle form, be ready for a mixed bag of fish.  In addition to walleyes and saugers, pike, jumbo perch, crappies, and even a few smallies and muskies will be caught.   Again, the goto presentation will be a jig and minnow. Slow trolling a crankbait will also produce fish if need be.

Totally disagree Gim. I have a gas Jiffy legend auger. Never issues. Take a little time to care for it before putting it away and good to go. Sincei started using non oxygen gas, startron and seafood in never have issues with my 2 strokes.   seafood???   I'd try seafoam!!!   🤣

Wow, 600 bucks for a battery powered lawn mower?  Guess I didn't realize they costed that much.   I assume most people now are using battery augers in the winter.  I remember when they first came out everyone thought they were a joke.  Things sure have changed on that front.  I hardly see anyone using a gas auger anymore.   The selling point, at least for me, would be to avoid having to do any engine maintenance.  Small 2 stroke motors are a pain in the rear to maintain, and unreliable at best.
