Fishing near Fr. Hennepin SP

Recommended Posts

Going camping later this week with a bunch of kids. Don't have a big boat but want to get them out on the water once or twice without going too far. Looking for info/advice on fishing near the park, close bait, etc. Thanks in advance.

If you are taking a bunch of kids the perch have been biting during the day on the rock reefs using slip bobbers and small leeches or pieces of crawler.A lot of action and some nice jumbos in the mix.The Graveyard is close to there. How familiar are you with the lake?Do you have a GPS?

not familiar at all. Fished once on a whim in the winter, no luck. Fished once on a launch right after a cold snap, similiar luck. Looks like little swimming Thurs. or Fri. this week so some fish would be a good thing. And no GPS. I think I have a good map, but haven't located it yet. Perch would be great, after all they're just smaller walleyes anyway, right? Only bait shop I'm familiar with is the one right where 169 hits the lake and bends west. Thanks for your response.

The fishing peir at Father Hennipen is a great place to fish. I have seen everything caught there and you don't need a boat.

With a good map and hopefully you have a locator the graveyard shouldnt be to hard to find and possibly there might be some boats fishing it.The perch have been pretty active on the rock reefs especially if it is a sunny day.The same area will produce some eyes if you fish it in the evening. What days are you going to be there? What kind of boat do you have?I will be up there thursday afternoon and might possibly head over in that direction. If you are going up 169 there are bait shops in Onamia and there is a bait shop just past Isle on the right. If you want to give me a call at 763-241-1377 I can give you a few tips.

Thanks guys. We're familiar with the pier from last time we were there, 2000 I think. That'll be good if the boys (age 12) want to fish unsupervised. I have a 14 foot boat, which will be crowded but I figure I won't do much fishing while untangling lines and such. As long as there isn't too much wind we should be ok if we don't wander too far out. I do have a locator. Thanks again.
