I like to use a jigging soon with a minnow head on one line and either a colored hook or a small glow jig and whole minnow on a set line or dead stick.Hope this helps good luck

I second that! I've had the best luck jigging with Buckshot rattles or JB lures angle eye's. That has been the best for me. I had the best luck with large fat heads, you not only catch some walleyes but also some jumbo perch.

A size 3 hammered silver swedish pimple will outproduce any other spoon. I have outfished every person I know on Mille Lacs for walleyes the last 2 years useing this spoon. I used to use other colers but it seams that this coler works best. If I cant catch fish on a hammered silver swedish pimple they arnt biteing. I will change to all kinds of different colers, sizes, different spoons and nothing. It sometimes helps to fish a minnow right next to your hole you are jigging in so if the fish are finicky the spoon will draw them in and they will bite the minnow. I have caught walleyes as small as 8 inches and as big as 29 inches on this spoon, perch from 4 to 12 inches on this spoon and crappies from 6-13.5 inches on this spoon.

The jig that catches the most fish for me (on Mille Lacs) is a medium sized white weasel. It's hammered silver on one side and white (but glows) on the other with a thin green line in the middle. I've caught walleye's when the guys i'm fishing with can't buy one! They throw everything at them but they don't have the power of the weasel! It worked so good that I bought several more (different colors and sizes) but none of them work like the first one.

Rooster, I like your enthusiasm, but I gatta tell you that there are spoons that are a lot better than pimples. Pimples would be my last choice, in fact they never get to go swimming anymore. Glad to hear your doing well on them, but I will never trade you spoons. Wish I could say the name here, but then there would be no walleyes or perch left in Mille Lacs by the end of the season. LOL!

Yes, MN is very difficult to register anything that had a title or a original registration card. I've ran into the same issue with old snowmobiles, and motorcycles it suks. Hope he can get it done over in Wisconsin for you. Good Luck.

Thanks.  Very similar to my tactics.  I usually haven't started using lead core until August and then we are fishing in 30 FOW.  I will give it a try in 20-25'.

It's amazing how much the water level is dropping. It looks like we've been getting enough rain to keep the forest hydrated but not enough to fill the lake.

Finally made it up to Vermilion this summer.  Between opening our place in Soudan and entertaining the wife and dog I only made it out on the lake 1½ hours Wednesday evening and 3½ hours Thursday morning.  In those 5 hours all I caught was a 10" perch.  I had 3 other light bites and that was it.  The wife caught two 8" eyes Wednesday and didn't get out Thursday morning with me.  Vermilion Fuel and Food didn't have rainbows, and their chubs were very small and pike suckers were too big (they did have a river-mix that looked good that I should have tried).  I did see a few mayflies on the surface so I will blame all of those factors on my lack of success, although my lack of fishing skills factored in also.  Many others fishing around us and I only saw one other fish being landed so maybe I wasn't the only one struggling to catch fish.   Water temp was 65°F in Stuntz Bay and the water level is running 13" lower than last year at this time as shown below.  Good luck fishing and enjoy the lake.  It was beautiful out there.
