Top 4 fish house rentals ?

Ya Hey Der

Recommended Posts

I am planning a trip for 6 and would like to know what your top 4 resort recommendations are. Looking for sleepers with stove, bathroom and card table. I don't know if most places are booked but we would like to fish Feb. 13th and 14th. We are still undecided about fishing Gull or Mille Lacs. Any suggestions on which to fish would also be helpful as well.
Thanks for all your help.

*posting a copy on Brainerd forum as well.

McQuids is top notch. Me and a couple of buddies rent a sleeper last year and it was fun has....well you know smile.gif Had a burner slept 5(not their biggest houst) Table,TV,radio and yes a toilet. And I tell you one thing I would want the job of cleaning that thing after 5 college guys got down with a weekend of drinking and eating Burgers and junk food. But yeah McQuids is awesome.

Mcquoids has some of the nicest houses I have been in. Actually, leaving tomorrow am for a couple days in the houses! Nice new beds, clean houses with everything you would need. For 6 people, look at the lodge. It has 7 beds and 14 holes, the thing is huge!!!

It all depends on how nice you want the house and how much you are looking to spend. I have gone the super nice route (McQuoids) and the modest route (Dickie's). With McQuoids, you get more features and a nicer house, but you pay a bigger chunk of change. My group goes up to fish somewhat, but mainly to have a good time playing cards, drinking beer, etc. If the fishing is good, we'll stay interested, if it's not, we have other things to keep us busy. I want to say for the weekend last year compared to this year, we paid $175 more at McQuoid's. For that $175, we got a TV, radio, electric lights if needed, and a fishhouse as nice as any. If you don't need an immaculate house with all the bells and whistles, my advice would be to shop around. As far as the fishing went, it was slow at both locales, but as stated above we didn't fish too hardcore. Good luck and have fun.

Been going to McQuoids for years with no regrets. But this year the guys wanted to try somewhere else, just to be different. We are going this weekend to Lybacks. One thing Lybacks has is a apt. size 4 burner stove with oven which will be very nice. I'll post Tuesday when I get back.

Do you know anything about the fishing out of Lybeck's? Got a few fellas heading up and we have a house that Lybecks pulled out. Was up there two weekends ago with not a whole lot of action. We got some nice sized perch Sat. and Sun. mornings put had to jig for them pretty hard. Guessing we had a school of Tullibee cruise through late Sat. night early Sun. morning, had every rattle reel waking us up with only one pulled up. Other than that we had one marble eye pulled up 14.5 inches. Our house has got some light stained wood siding if you're in the area stop in. There will be a white dodge and a blue ranger outside. Good Luck.

Slab Slayer, nope, don't know anything about Lybacks. Back in the late 60's, my Dad and brother used to go up out of there, but I was pretty young. I have been fishing in the gerneral area before, but have not ben up yete this year. Thanks for the invite, If I see your house I'll say Hi.

We had a 4 burner stove in our fishhouse and a full size oven. Just as we were about to head to the store for a stack of frozen pizzas, we read the little sign on it that said it didn't work. Talk about a letdown. Frozen pizza, beer, and cards, what more could you ask for? Oh yeah, some walleyes would be nice too.

Just got back from Mcquoids. Lots of small perch. A couple of nicer ones, but mostly the 4 inchers. 1 23" walleye and a couple pout. Nothing to great, but the houses were really nice! The houses are on Hawkbill reef in about 23 feet over the rocks.

Lybacks report. Bottom line, I'd rent there again, nice people, good price. We had a 10 x 20 with 4 bunks, 4 burner stove and the oven worked!! Lasagna & garlic bread was great. Fishing was VERY slow, but you can't fault the resort for that. Sat. night did get chilly in the house, it was around -10 and very windy, the furnace never shut off, just to much wind going through the house. Under normal conditions the house was very comfortable, small computer fan on ceiling to not have the guys at the top get roasted.

How'd you do? Our house was very slow, not even a lot of takers. Lot of chasers on the graph but nothing biting. Thinking about heading up again this weekend. The early weather report sounds a bit more promising!

I have complete confidence in their expertise, and I'm certain that our cabin and fish cleaning house will soon have a brand new roof that not only meets our needs but exceeds our expectations. It's such a relief to have found a trustworthy contractor after previously having negative experiences. I'm incredibly grateful for the recommendations I received, and I'm excited to move forward with this reputable roofing contractor. If anyone is in need of a reliable and fair contractor in the area, I'd be more than happy to share their contact information

On the south end...  A great week of walleye and sauger fishing on Lake of the Woods.  Lots of limits.  Good numbers of fish being caught, which includes eaters, slots and some trophy walleyes to make things interesting!    Most anglers are jigging with a frozen emerald shiner or live minnow.  Jig colors to consider are gold with a bright color such as gold / pink, gold / glow white and even gold with some tinsel.     Some reports of spinners starting to work well tipped with a minnow or crawler.  A great technique is drifting with a 2 ounce bottom bouncer and spinner rig. Fish being caught around the lake.  Trust your electronics and watch for fish.  In addition to the south shore where various schools of walleyes and saugers are living, consider the Garden Island area, Knight / Bridges Island area, and Twin Islands where good fish are being caught.   Most walleyes in that 18 - 24 foot depth.    Good pike reports.  Back bays are still holding good eaters and a few big females.  Some of the larger fish have made their way to the lake.   On the Rainy River...   Walleye anglers are finding some nice eater walleyes in the River.  There is always a number of walleyes that stay in the river all year.  Whether you like the beauty and secluded feel of the river, have a small boat or simply want to get out of the wind, the river is a great summer spot with little traffic.  Anchored up or slowly moving upstream with a jig and minnow, trolling spinners / crawlers or trolling crankbaits are all effective right now.     Smallmouth bass are plentiful in the Rainy River.  Whether you are a bass angler or simply want to mix up species, target feeder rivers, bridges, and areas with rocks.   The sturgeon season will re-open again July 1st. Up at the NW Angle...  Excellent walleye fishing this past week.  The jig and minnow is the goto bait.  Anglers using spinners with crawlers or minnows and crankbaits are catching lots of fish as well.     Structure around the many islands holding walleyes.  Shallow flats areas with current are also heating up.     Great fishing reports from both sides of the border.  NW Angle anglers boating into Canada to fish cannot possess or transport any bait, alive or dead.  Most are using jigs / plastics, artificial crawlers on spinners and crankbaits with great success.  If desired, live bait is available and can be purchased for the day just over the border via boat in Canada, check with your resort for details. This entire area is great for multispecies action.  In addition to walleyes, big pike, smallmouth bass, jumbo perch, crappies, and muskies are also being caught on a regular basis.

We are heading up a week from Friday if anyone has walleye thoughts on the West end. Thanks!

Fishing for Walleyes slow. Panfish are going good however.  Lots of junk floating around the lake be careful. Pontooners give the fishing boats a wide birth.

Thanks to all that have shared reports.   Please post water temps and general area of the lake from the weekend and throughout this week.  I am heading up this weekend and water temp will play a role in our tactics.  Thanks!

Great idea! Filming your hunts and watching the footage during the offseason is a fantastic way to stay connected to your passion. YouTube offers a wealth of non-professional hunting videos filled with tips and inspiration. Your friend's camera stands for shallow water hunting sound impressive! It's a clever way to capture memorable moments. Enjoy your hunts and happy filming!

Fished for about 4-5 hours this weekend with the kids, all time in Big Bay. Had a mix of rainbows and pike suckers for bait. Rainbows out-fished pike suckers, and the small rainbows were bringing in fish. Caught about 12-14 fish, kept 8 for a fish fry. Biggest was 16". Limited sample says action seemed better in the morning than evening. Working 16-18' in the morning was our best run. Evening was slow. Didn't get to too many places, hit four reliable spots and caught fish in 3 outta 4.
