drove by on 37 today at 1:15pm and then again about 4:15 pm and there were a pile of cars out there in 1 small spot, what that means , I'm not sure.

I've never fished it before.

Made it out last Fri and yes-walked out. Kind of a long walk with the old Frabill. No luck on the bite but sure enjoyed the nice morning. I could just see the trucks that

went in from where I was at. Got caught by Care 11 news coming off the ice, so that was interesting. You might have seen me if you were watchin the 5pm news. Looks like I'll be hang'n er up till next year smirk.gif

PS.

I also talked to the DNR officer when I came off and he metioned something about getting the lake back to a lower lever and they have plans in the mix to bring the lake back to more of a fowl preserve...didn't give great details...I just said I thought fish taste better then duck anyhow so I'd be fishing the lake next ice season. wink.gif

Dew, I can answer that for you,at least as of 3/29. An aquaintance of mine, who works for a local towing outfit in that area, said that the tow guys were trying to pull the vehicles out from up on shore, and breaking cables left and right. No way for them to get out there on the ice. With the rain on 3/30, those folks who dumped their vehicles in are probably screwed. No other updates to speak of since what I had heard on Tuesday.

FYI - The Wright County Journal-Press dated Thursday 3/31/05 has a front page story on the guys and their vehicles going through. The article said one of the three vehicles drove off the ice later that night, and the other two were removed by towing services on March 26th.

I was out there today, the white truck was being hauld away.

the rumor has it that the 2nd one will have to wait until the ice is gone,& it dry's up a little, they are about a mile out from the puplic access, they are going thru a privite party to get the vechicles out. Now I just want everyone to know that this is all hear say.

But i did see the white truck go by, as i was talking to the guy that gave me the info.

Looking at the white truck, which i seen on the news, before it came out of the ice, and see it drive by on the tow ruck it is pretty much history.

the topper was gone, the side anel of the truck, looked like it got hit by another truck.

i just feel so sorry for the peoople involved.

It can happen to anyone, so we all need to be aware of where and what we are doing.

Thanks Lynn

Federline- The Journal Press is wrong on it's facts. Lynno62 proved that this weekend. All I know is what I had heard a few days ago.Papers are only good for lining a bird cage anyway.

Agreed on the use of papers. smile.gif Hard to imagine they had it so wrong, gee. wink.gif I'd add that starting BBQs with them is a nice use, too.

Went by Pelican. It's open water as of today. Empty boat trailer and truck at the launch.

I seen a bunch of people fishing crappies from shore on the east side. I talked to a couple of kids and they showed me one decent sized crappie (about 10" or so). They must be pretty shallow since they were fishing what is basically a ditch.

I was out there on Sat. just off of Co. Rd. 117 and didn't get a bite. There was another guy there and he said that he heard that they were doing ok on the north end fishing some bar. To me that whole lake is a sand bar.

I'm gonna try and fish pelican this week for the first time. I'm going to try the north side where I've seen groups in the past. If anybody has any other spots to try please let me know. Where is the public access? Can I get on from the north? Thanks.

I hope you have a 4-wheeler or snowmobile, because its a long walk to the north end. There is a public access on the west side off of 117. Its within a Waterfowl Production Area. If you are on foot, you could get to the north end from another WPA on the northwest side. I don't know the name of the road, but if you are heading west on 37 take the first left (south) after you don't see the lake anymore. Its a dead end road and at the end is the WPA, but you can't drive motor vehicles with-in it.

It's been a busy winter so far and since the ice has been so questionable I have not ventured out as of yet. However I see myself making the trip out this weekend off the 117 access. Unfortunately, I don't own a ATV or snowmobile so I'll have to hoof it. This also puts the North side of the lake out of reach more me unless I find the Northeast WPA or my buddy with the toys is willing to search the lake for the mythical crappie.

I have no doubt there are some nice fish in that lake but it will take some time to get it figured out. The bad part is that I have no confindence in the lake ice out there so won't drive my truck on any part but the access off 117, but only if I see some others out there. Hopefully my test run this weekend will prove a success and also find out if the ice is thick enough to drive out.

Good Luck

Best weed eater I've ever run with great longevity is Echo, I'd check them out

Hey government,  Just give us choices. I don’t care what people use as long as as it works for you. I’m needing a new weed eater. Plan on a Stihl FS 40 easy start. I’m done with the cheaper brands. Just don’t last long enough.  Probably true with the Stormy Daniels of the world as well. Cheaper don’t last long enough 🤭

If you turn on a movie they survive the 20min ride just fine. After many controlled experiments, I've found that they survive much better if you show "Finding Nemo" instead of "Jaws."

Quick update: Lucky 7 now has rainbows, fatheads, crappie and light pike in stock. If I remember correctly, scoop of rainbows was $8.99.  Stopped at L&M in Virginia. Rainbows $6.99, fatheads and crappie minnows (scoop) $3.99. I was billed $6.99 dozen for rainbows, but was given a healthy scoop!

I have had the same old Strikemaster augers for years, take care of them and they will last a long time.   I think E-augers are nice for around home lakes or at the cabin. The thing that was a eye opener to me was being in D-Rock in New Brighton getting new blades and there were two guys that just got back from a week in Canada on a big ice fishing trip and both very pissed off at their e-augers dying! They were both buying new gas augers.

On the south end...   Things are shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener which takes place Saturday, May 11th.  Recent rain has brought up the water levels, which were low.  The walleyes and saugers are in very good shape across the south shore.  Expectations are high. The goto presentation this weekend will be a jig and frozen emerald shiner or other kind of minnow.  Emerald shiners are a staple in LOW and walleyes love them.     Hook the shiner through the mouth and out the gill.  Push the minnow all the way up to the jig head and hook the minnow as far back as possible.  This will give you a better hooking percentage.     Jig sizes and colors?  This is stained water so you can get away with a big heavier jig, which is nice for those who don't fish a lot.  It enables them to have more control and feel the bottom.  A quarter ounce jig is a good size for starters.     In stained water, gold, glow white, glow red, pink, orange and chartreuse, or a combo of those colors, are great places to start.   The limit of walleyes and saugers is a combined limit of six fish, up to four of the six can be walleyes.  All walleyes between 19.5 - 28.0 inches must be released.  One fish over 28.0 inches can be kept.  The possession limit in MN is one daily limit of fish. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, there will be some good pike caught this weekend.  The pike season on LOW is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one fish allowed more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. On the Rainy River...  Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River has been excellent.  The catch and release season is May 8 - 15.  The keep season starts up again July 1st. FYI, there will be some nice walleyes in the Rainy River for the fishing opener.  Lots of sturgeon anglers are reporting big walleyes being caught on sturgeon rigs! Up at the NW Angle...  Angle resorts are ready to roll for the opener.  As many of you know, this is the area of LOW where the islands begin.  Lots of structure.     Go to spots for walleyes, neck down areas, shoreline breaks, points and bays which will have warmer water.  In true NW Angle form, be ready for a mixed bag of fish.  In addition to walleyes and saugers, pike, jumbo perch, crappies, and even a few smallies and muskies will be caught.   Again, the goto presentation will be a jig and minnow. Slow trolling a crankbait will also produce fish if need be.
