Hey JigginJim - Lowrance Ifinder & Navonics chips

Recommended Posts

Hey Jim, Rumors are being duscussed on the IceFishing thread about Navonics coming out with a new chip (compatible with Lowrance Ifinder GPS units) that will have more MN lakes than the current chip and at 1/2 the cost of current chip. The other day you showed me the current Navonics chip, at a price of around $200, and it only had two Spicer area lakes.(Andrew and Calhoun, & maybe Green). Since you are kind of in-the-know since you work at Gndr Mtn and are familiar with the Spicer area lakes, have you heard of this new Navonics chip release in the near future? THere seems to be a high interest in a new chip, with more detail and especially more lakes for the Lowrance GPS units. Let us know what you hear.

Murdock, I have not see or heard anything about a new chip.

But that would not surprize me of a newer chip comes out. The spicer area lakes on the now premium chip are Andrew and Calhoun. Andrews ok, but for Calhoun what waste of space. But I guess for beginners its good enough.

BNBRK94, I recently purchased the Ifinder and do like it. I will now begin to fish the bigger waters more frequently. (Mille Lacs, Leech, etc). I am researching which chip to purchase to get more lake detail. I will be waiting/researching until a chip is introduced that displays most of the Spicer area lakes. I can't believe the chips that are currently avble do not have Green, Nest, Norway, Games, Florida, etc. Would also like to see alot of SouthCentral MN lakes included as well. (Faribult area). Anyone else have any knowledge of a current chip or a chip that will be introduced soon with more lake details?

Nice thread Murdock - I've got on older inexpensive Garmin GPS with no maps. I'm also waiting on what you are describing before upgrading my unit to a new one. But am I missing something here? I would have bet that Lowrance has models out now that have this capability - or is it only with add-on software. I thought for sure my buddy has a Lowrance hand held with Green Lake on it - and it's a unit that is at least 2 yrs old. What did I miss? Thx

Murdock, I talked with lakemaps.com they will have a new chip out this spring, with green lake and others. Cost? They didn't now at this time or wasn't going to say.

I don't know if I told you, I have the navionics chip now and it's great for the lakes that are on it. $200. well spent if you fish any of those lakes. 1ft, 3ft, &5ft contours are fairly close. See you at Gander some time.

JigginJim, Thanks for the info on the Lakemaps.com new chip. I am hoping their cost will be $100 or less. I can't justify $200 for GPS mapping software. Have you heard if other gps mapping companies will be releasing similiar gps mapping chips in the near future? Thanks again for the update.
