Did he land it?

Last night I was fishing by Indian Point (I think it's indian point)and this guy had a very big fish on, it was so big that it pulled his boat around and he almost ran into 3 other boats. I have never seen anything like this before and I watched for at least 30 minutes and had to leave.

Did anyone see him land it? If so, what kind of fish was it and how big?

I have never seen a fish pull a boat around like this before.

You forgot to mention he was in a canoe with a snoopy pole. shocked.gif Or was he just snagged and everyone else was trolling into him? LOL!!!

Ole #1, why on earth would you watch for a 1/2 hour and then leave? The anticipation would have driven me nuts. I hope someone else saw the "catch"!!!!

saw a guy catch a large sturgen - did the same thing, also broke his net and took two people to get it in the boat. sturgen in the lake?

Ok. It wasnt a canoe. It was a 12 ft Jon Boat with and 12 V Electric Trolling motor. It wasn't a snoopy pole, it was one of the rods that Gander Mountain gave to the first 5,000 kids 12 and under at the Sportsman Show.

rolleyes.gif Its called being sarcastic. I mean you watched for a 1/2 hour saying it was fun to watch, yet you leave before the fish (whale, shark, orca) landed.
I just found it funny that a day later you would post a message inquiring about the outcome.

I truly hope someone stayed and can finish the story.

I am the kind of guy who fishes whenever possible and I had the opportunity to fish this lake for 3 hours on Sunday. I do have Children and they are my priority. I put my 4 yr old before some guy catching a fish and I wanted to know if he landed it, but I'm glad you find it amusing.

Thanks for the helpful info I was looking for.

OK..lets not get too bent out of proportion here.

I understand the young ones being sensitive to time on the water. No doubt. smile.gif

However, a buddy of mine came back from fishing last week, telling me of this fish he battled for 30 minutes and could only chase with the boat. 40 feet of water he said and in 30 minutes all it did was cruise the bottom. He said he gave up and cut his line....

I ribbed him for hours about not being a "fisherman". Who in their right mind cuts their line in the middle of a battle of a lifetime???

He said he believed it to be a huge Sturgeon and wanted to get back to Wally Gators...I don't know about you folks, but I am in it for the sport and fight...And the mystery of what or how large "IT" might have been, even though it was on his line and I wasn't even there, is driving me nuts.

Well folks, lesson learned: Lift weights before you go fishing. He said his muscles got sore. Whew! Better luck next time.

Stamina, goes with EVERYTHING.

Good luck friends.

I hear ya.

This guy had it to the surface for a while and it kicked the tail out of the water a few times. It would get close to the boat and then run. It was sucking line off his reel and pulling the boat at the same time. I wish I could have seen him land it. He had the other guy with the net going back and forth, back and forth. I wish I had a fish on like that to battle.

I heard there were sturgen in the lake, but I did not see the fish well enough to tell. I would have stayed and watched, but I had to get home and I figured he would have lost it sooner or later.

He was not in a canoe and it was not a snoopy pole, but this fish did pull him.

A canoe? A snoopy pole? Come on guys, this is Mille Lacs, nobody here fishes with anything less then a Zebco 202. Everyone knows this wink.gif

I'd say more like a big Muskie. There are 50+ inchers in there, big enough to pull you around. Wish I could have seen that!

Ole, This was probably a large muskie on 6# line. My son and I had three of these on in Sept on Lake Independence in three hours and a fight like this takes awhile. We never did see these fish but I fought one for 35 minutes with a seven foot rod. They never broke our lines for Trilene stretches well with your drag set properly.I did catch a 20# by myself fishing for walleyes on a Lindy rig and he pulled me all around the bay ( with a 17.5 Crestliner Nordic) boat in tow. This is no problem for a Muskie or big gator. I have the picture to prove it. I know of others that have similar stories so let your boy read these and fantasize what other monsters that may lurk beneath the waters...... Always Searchin'

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
