I walked out on Zippel bay last Sunday. There was 3 1/2" inches of ice out at 21'. I wanted to go out on Saturday but there was only 2" and I didn't want to walk out a mile on 2" of ice. I was surprised that it made 1.5 inches of ice overnight as it only got down to 5 degrees F on Saturday night. Fishing was good but not fabulous. Nothing big. I had to leave early though so I didn't get to try the evening bite. Not as good as I have come to expect for first ice.
