Best Ice Fishing Lodge for a Group

Recommended Posts

My wife is trying to plan an ice fishing trip for me and a few of my buddies for my Birthday that is coming up this month. ( Bless Her Heart ) Great Woman ! We want to head to LOW in January right after all the holiday crazyiness. I was thinking that I wanted to get into the Canadian side where the lake was not the size of an ocean. I would think there would be a little more in the way of islands and reefs in case we wanted to adventure around.

Can someone lead me in the right direction to a great place with nice fish houses and a place to stay. It would be nice if the resort had a big lodge with a bar for cocktails and so forth. We are not in need of someone to make all of our meals and be on that type of plan. We like to do some of our own cooking, but maybe have a resturaunt available for one night. If any of you think going the Minnesota route on the Big Boy part of the lake is a btter way to go let me know where is best for that as well.

Much Appreciated !

We normally stay at the WigWam or Sportsmans out side of Baudett. If your planning on going in Jan get your reservations now.

You'll find tht most of the resorts or booked by now frown.gif, you still might find some mid-week thats open. Good luck, you'll have a great time.

Fool4fish, the Can. side does not have ice houses . At least not that I know of. I am one of the owners of Randall's Resort and could help you in Minnesota. there are many resorts on this side.

Fool4fshg, If you are looking for an area that has islands or reefs, you don't have to go to Canada. Just go up to the NW Angle. There are several fine resorts in the NW Angle and if I remember correctly, a couple restaurants as well. You don't have to go too far out up there to get into excellent reefs and any number of islands. There are even a couple resorts located on Oak Island. One of those might be the very thing you are looking for. No, I am not in business up in the NW Angle. Just a retired Auld Phart trying to help out a fellow FM member. Your best bet would be to check the "Resort locator" on this site, then click on NW Angle. Have a great time and I hope the first fish you catch is HUGE!!!!!!!!! wink.gif

Fish Minnesota! Limits in Canada are only one or two a day for non-resident and four in possesion. Nobody uses fish houses. Minnows can be hard to get.

Fool4fshg,

I've stayed at Borderview for several years and have always been happy with their service, accomodations and lodge. If you find that the resorts you try do not have room for overnight lodging during the time you wish to go another option is to stay in a motel in Baudette and just rent a day house for your fishing from one of the resorts. The Royal Dutchman has kitchenette rooms at a reasonable rate and Rosalies is a great restaurant and bar West of the Walleye Inn on Hwy 11. Have fun.

Zipple Bay Resort has a few nice big log lodges that can handle a larger group of guys. They are some pretty nice lodges too! Look for their web site. I think there are some pictures there.

Good Luck,

Granny

Give Angle Inn Lodge a try, you can not beat the hospitality, and the food is the best
