Boat fishing instead?

Recommended Posts

My group had scheduled this coming weekend (Dec 2-4)as our ice fishing weekend on "The Woods". Well, ice fishing isn't going to happen. My question for the locals up there. Is it worth it to bring my boat up and try open water fishing? I have the time off and I want to fish. Just wondering if this is a decent option or not. Need advice and thanks.

A few of us folks up here have been venturing out on the Rainy River in boats the last couple weeks, with awesome results. Not only lots of 'eyes, but several in the 10 lb plus range. The problem this coming weekend may be that there is just enough ice so can't launch or use a boat, and not enough to walk out on. I don't live quite close enough to give you a day to day report, so I would suggest you get a hold of a resort or two. Clementson Resort for sure if you're thinking about fishing the river in a boat, or Adriens if you're thinking about the Gap/Four Mile Bay area, as well as the Rainy. If you come up, and have room in the boat, I'ld be happy to jump in with you, and show you where I've catching 'em. Good luck.

Good info, Walleyejon, and thanks. I'm still up in the air for what to do. I'm staying at Adrian's, so I'll keep in contact with them right up until I go...or stay home. I'd love to take you with, but there will be 4 of us in my 17 foot Lund Pro Sport. It'll be full with 4 guys in snowmobile suits. I could meet you somewhere if you wanted to. We'll be up there Thursday (2nd) and leaving Sunday (5th). The one thing I just can't believe is that I'm talking about getting my boat out in December. People are going to think I'm nuts trailing a boat north!!!

Keep me posted MercMan. If you come up, and I can find someone to fish with, I could dig my boat out of the shed, and meet you, or one of your crew would be welcome to hop in with me, that would give you a little more room to net all the fish.

Jon, my crew is bailing out fast on me. They're all pretty chicken thinking about how cold it's going to be. My dad and I are coming for sure. We'll be up at Adrian's tomorrow night at about 7 or 8. If it's only the two of us, please come with. When can you go? How do I get a hold of you...or you me? You can track me down at Adrian's. I'm staying in cabin #10 and I go by "Parker".
