Cold weather boat/motor prep

Recommended Posts

When fishing the colder weather, are there any precautions that you take with your motor? In particular, the freeze-up of the water line.... Thanks SAL

The only thing I do to ensure the water drains is to give the engine a quick start/stop when it is out of the water and then leave the lower unit down.

My rig goes in the garage, but it is not heated and I do not have problems at all. Every once in a while I will have to let the motor run at idle to get the water flowing good. Cold weather doesn't mean you have to quit fishing, just take some simple precautions like those noted to prevent problems.

Thanks... info is helpful... hope to do some winter soft-water fishing. It's really tough to see the boat sit in the shed all winter.

Gazing at that hole in the ice makes me feel like a skin diver for roto-rooter getting ready to go to work. Much rather be in the boat.
