East Metro Lakes

Recommended Posts

I went up north on Thursday by Moose Lake to a small lake up there and there was 6-7". We caught about 10 nice crappies, so it was a successful first trip out. I plan on checking out the ice this next week. I'll report what I find. After today and tomorrow there should be some fishable ice out htere.

I finally got out!!!!! Went to tanners. Between 3-4 inches of ice. Got two cigars and a couple hits. It's about time.

gundy, is that a good trip for tanners? I rarely fish it anymore, I never hear of good reports (except for the few tall tales Ive heard from the pier fisherman). Last year I tried it once and got a little walleye.

I usually get a couple small ones. Two years ago the size was a lot better. There are a lot of cigars in there with a few in the upper teens once and a while. Mostly around ten inches though. Nothing spectacular, but close to home and easy to fish.

I hit Battle creek today. 8" of ice. I got lots of pike action on my tip up but ran out of bait. Nothing as far as panfish though. I stopped fishing for the panfish, put my cammera down to watch the pike come through and grab the suckers. Lots of fun to watch.

Hit Powers last night for a bit. I went out with wall-i-king. He caught a couple crappies and I missed a couple. I think we got out a little too late for the bite though. Marked fish all night but couldn't get them to bite. I will be trying my luck again tomorrow. Let me know if anyone wants to join me.

Hey Iceman 12, have you ever tried Colby Lake? This spring I threw a little minnow out from the west side and caught an 8 inch crappie. I grew up there and it was strictly bullheads. I think theres about a 12 foot hole and a spring on the north end. I've never tried icefishing on it, but it might be interesting. Let me know if you try it!

Hey Iceman -

I drove by Powers at about 4:00 and noticed someone on the east side of the lake. Was that you? If it was, did you do any good?

That wasn't me. I will be out tomorrow for most of the day, if you see a green Eskimo that will be me. I'll post how I do when I get home.

Hi everybody:

I am planning on taking a kid fishing next week that has never been ice fishing before. I would like to hit one of these east metro lakes you guys have been talking about (in the Woodbury area) that has a good chance of catching some sunnies or crappies... no matter if they are small or not. Which one would be the best for that??

Thanks.

Powers Lake in Woodbury used to have a reputation for nice crappies. I don't exactly remeber how to get there but someone on here probably does. If i'm not mistaken I think it;s the Cottage Grove and Woodbury border.

If you want to get into a bunch of them I would suggest demontreville lake which is just a little south of Highway 5 and is right in the area of Jane. This lake is loaded with little sunfish and crappies and the occasional walleye bass and crappie. Powers is an ok lake too but the fish are just TOO little, and it is on highway 19 just a little bit south of 94. I have done well in the past and you can catch little perch and sunfish to no end but it takes a little more to get into the big ones.

keep fishin'

I second that, Demontreville would be your best bet to keep the kids busy. There's big northern in the lake too.

Went out on Powers this afternoon. Fished 2:00 to 5:00. Caught some very small perch and a few crappies that were too small to keep. Got the crappies very deep on jig and minnow. 10.5" of ice.
