This may sound dumb, but what are the chances of me going fishing this weekend??? I live in SW MN, so I'm figuring no, but wanted some opinions.

Slabslayer...It does not look good for that week.. water temps are dropping, but we need some sub zero weather to form enough ice on LOTW.. Just my 3 cents opinion !! cool.gif

I would estimate your chances of going ice fishing this weekend, as falling somewhere between d** slim and none. Wish I had better news.

Slayer, keep checkin the weather and call up there on occasion. The forecast is calling for some fairly cold weather up there in the next few weeks. It depends on where you are going on LOW, but you might be able to do it. Don't give up until the last second. One year the day before we were to leave there was little to no ice. We went anyhow, cuz it was cold out that day/night. The day we arrived there was 4 inches of ice and the fish were just pounding.

I am starting to wonder if there is going to be ice for my reservations Dec. 20--23. This warm weather is killing me mad.gif I sure hope it gets cold soon. Last year I was up there Dec. 8--10 and there was 6-8 inches in 4 mile bay. Dont lose hope!!!!!!!!!

The cold will arrive very soon, have faith in our NW MN winter weather. Won't get to get out around Thanksgiving this year but hopefully we'll see ice the first week of december. This weeks upcoming forecast has a bit of cold to it....Just hope those big winds don't come up fierce and ruin things just when they're just getting started!

Have faith, my money says we'll have ice enough for walking out somewheres by the 10th anyhow.

cool.gifcool.gifHey Fisky could you post an ice report weekly for now and daily when it gets closer to that weekend of Dec 11-12. I am thinking you either live close to the lake or you know somebody close to it to give me an accurate ice thickness since I have about 300 miles to drive to get there I dont want to burn a trip for nothing. Thanks and good luck this winter if it ever gets here. What area can you traditionally walk out on first??? Keep you hooks sharp and beer cold!!! grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

I second wicky...an update on the big pond would be greatly appreciated! I have a group of 12 guys from work lined up and we have until Dec. 7th to cancel our reservations...I can't get the guys to quit drooling...looks like mother nature is trying though...COME ON ICE! Good Luck to everyone this winter...looking forward to meeting some new fellow FM'rs on the ice...

It depends. If you are willing to hoof it out or maybe use ATV's, keep your date. If you need to drive the Yukon to your hot spot, pick another weekend.

I try to make it up the second weekend of December every year. I've only missed a couple.

Last year there was 10-12 inches and huge rigs pulling mansion shacks out that weekend.

Every year I head up early ice and my wife wants to commit me. It is the best fishing of the year.
