Boy, just when the walleye fishing and duck hunting was getting good the fall floods had to come, From Fri morning till Sunday morning the river came up almost 5 feet West of New Ulm, Had to pull duck bout out to to massive trees floating down river, hope the water receeds as fast as it came up, Pretty amazing what 5 or 6 inches of rain up west will do,

All that water is just a bummer. In my stretch it has only just started to rise slowly. With allready higher than average fall river levels, itt going to make my fall walleye fishing a little more difficult.I think the eyes will still be feeding it will just be tougher to keep on them with the faster water.

I have never fished them in the fall. I am normally out bird hunting. Where are good areas to check?

Early fall the eyes feed up shallow.Try pitching jigs and plastics around rock points,at the mouth of creeks, and even snags.Areas where the current pushing directly at the shore line will also hold fish.

As the water temps start to drop into the low 40,s the fish will move into the deep eddies and holes.Outside bends with gravel or sand, the tail of holes, and the back sides of deep points will hold fish.

Thats how its supposed to work in a normal fall. With the water on the rise and the river becoming a bit murky (OK a bit more murky) the deeper water bite may be tough. Not only will walleye have less visibility but as the water cools it becomes more dense,it prevents scent to travel as easily. So a guy is left with vibration to coax a walleye to bite. Then theres a problem with that.As the water cools, walleye become less aggressive, and subtle presentations take more fish. A loud active vibrating bait is not going to make most fish bite.It should be an interesting fall.

I am hoping that the shallow bite last a bit longer so I don't have to play with a lot of presentations to get on a good solid pattern.:)
