Report: KG sucker punches Rick Rickert during pickup game
September 1, 2004 KG0902

Apparently, Timberwolves star Kevin Garnett doesn't like to be scored upon, especially by rookies he's guarding.
Garnett reportedly sucker punched former University of Minnesota standout Rick Rickert last week during a pickup game at the Target Center, according to reports in Wednesday's editions of the Washington Post and the Pioneer Press.
Rickert suffered a cut that required seven stitches to close, as well as a chipped tooth, the Post reported.
The fracas began after Rickert scored repeatedly while Garnett was guarding him, the Post reported. Several other players began to tease Garnett about being outplayed. Rickert scored once more, and Garnett then threw the punch, the Post reported.
Despite the damage, Rickert returned to practice the following day to work out with the same players, the Pioneer Press reported.
The Wolves selected Rickert during the second round of the 2003 draft. The Press reported that Rickert still has a chance to make the Wolves' team.

Ya OK you bet. Call me crazy if I dont believe it. The best defender in the entire league that Ive watched shut down the best players game after game cant guard a kid in his second year that wouldnt have been drafted if it werent for the T-wolves feeling sorry for him. Walters is so full of sh*t. Look back in the archives of his articles, over 50% of it is fantasy.

I will try to leave out my personal feeling about Rickert on this one. I find it hard to believe that Rickert was scoring on Garnett. Even if he was I find it hard to believe Garnett would haul off and hit him.

Update:

This is just a quote I got from another website. I have no idea if there is any truth to this or not. Just figured it was another view on the topic.

"take this for what u will but a poster on this other board was there and this is what he said:"

"alright enough of bashing my homie!!!!! Rickert set a mean a$$ back pick on kg. kev told him not to set those type of picks then rickert came down the court and scored and started talking **** with kris humphris (who also got thrown out the gym by kev a few years ago) kg didnt respond he just put his head down and started pointing to his brain tryin to calm himself down while rickert was laughing.A couple of plays later rickert calls a phatom foul and kev didnt like that and they exchanged words (cussing), but kg gave in to my suprise and rickert got the ball. then the next play rickert hits kg in the back with another pick and as they went down court told kris humphris (i got him,i got him) and that put kg over the top he ran up on rickert and mushed him in his face then str8 up punched him he his jaw everyone grabbed kg while rickert was bend over holding his jaw."

I played ball against Rickert and I watched him play a few highschool games and yes he is a head case. He's got a nice shot but a very poor work ethic. That showed when he tried to play defense at the U of M. If Garnett did hit him, he probably deserved it.

One can only take so much.

Here's a little story.....
In Rickert's Sr. year in HS I went to watch a regional tourney game in which my old school was playing. We sat behind members of another team that were in Rickert's conference. At the time, Rickert was being hyped up as the next best thing to come out of Minnesota, so it was only natural that everyone was talking about him. Anyhow, these other players started discussing how big of an a-hole jerk he was. How all he knew how to do was talk trash and how he loved to just rub salt into the wounds of the loosing team. They couldnt stop talking and laughing about how they diddnt think he would ever make it at the pro level and how his attitude was a huge issue.

IF he's as big of a head-case as what they said as well as what other sources have said, I don't blame KG one bit. The guy's the MVP, and in the NBA that means respect, especially from a pee-on like Rickert.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
