This past weekend was very good for fishing Blackduck. We filled out friday night and fished Island lake on saturday. We used lindy rigs around the Island on both lakes. As well as slip bobbers on Blackduck.
I was using a glow white hook from northland with a leech, fishing 1 foot to 3 feet off the bottom with very good results.
On Island lake we were fishing a hole off of the Island and caught a good number of walleyes that were in the 17 to 23 inch range. Both lindy rigs and slip bobbers were working on Island.
I also tried crankbaits on both of the lakes and twards evening they were working better that in the day time.
Good luck everyone.

Thanks for the report Kupcho. Probably heading to Island to work on the cabin for a short weekend and I was thinking of leaving the boat home. I may have to re-think that plan.

Kupchos- WHere were you fishing on Island Lake? I have not been up there since opener and was wondering if you were on the north or south side of the island. My mother is itching to go fishing, so the wife and I may have to head to Northome and kick dad and mom out of the house for an evening of fishing. I have been fishing Blackduck and have seemed to find a lucky hole that is producing some nice eating walleyes. Forgot to add about the nice fighting sheephead that my wife keeps catching. She has caught a 6, 7, and 8 lbs so far this year. I love to see her struggle with the fight.

Happy Fishing

Woodman

Hey fivebucks and Woodman, Sorry about the delay in getting back to you both. I've been really busy with things. On Island lake I was fishing the north east side of the Island. There is a little hole there off of a little rock pile that was producing walleyes for us. We also picked some up over the humps on the south side of the Island too.
Good luck both of you.

Kupcho,
Thanks. I haven't found that hole before but I rarely make it north of the island. A couple of years ago when Island was hot for 12-14" eyes did you always cook a shore lunch for your clients at the boat landing? My wife and I started going to Island several years ago and since we did not have a road in we always loaded the boat full with our camping gear and big black dog. Anyhow I'll keep an eye out for you to say hello. Fivebucks.

Hey Fivebucks, I don't do too many shore lunches unless they are requested for. But I do remember the 12 - 14" fish. Now they grew up a little.
Hopefully see you on the water. Talk to you later.

Jason

Don't take me wrong, I'm not anti-technology.  Battery powdered items will always have their place.  I'm mean you don't want your girl friend or wife in the bedroom playing for their gas powered adult toys!!  That would be a bit loud and smokey!

That’s right. My 84 year old dad loves his electric chain saw. Light weight and quiet. Besides, at his age he’s not cutting a bunch. Where as myself I want something with more power and heavier duty.  Look at how many people have switched back to gasoline cars after running one in winter if you travel a lot.   As long as my strike master works I’ll keep using gas. Maybe my next will be electric, but who knows,  you can find used gas ones pretty reasonable as others buy electric.

I think electric items have their places, I just don't think large commercial jobs are going to be able to work well with them. Can't see a logging crew out in the woods all day changing batteries!
