The Pack

With Favre running the show, plus its inclusion in one of the weaker divisions, Green Bay could be seen as a legitimate contender in the NFC. Last year, especially over the season's second half, Favre seemed to finally establish a consistent rhythm with wide receivers Robert Ferguson and Javon Walker. Running back Ahman Green is coming off another great year, and there's talent and experience throughout the roster.

The Packers, who scored the fourth-most points (442) in the league last season, should return every starter on offense from a year ago. And if any changes occur, they will likely be made among returning players.
Most of the moves during the off seaon occurred on defense through the draft. In fact, four of the team's six draft picks were used on defense -- two corners and two defensive tackles. Another change on defense was the switch in defensive coordinators. Ed Donatell was fired six days after the playoff loss to Philadelphia. Bob Slowik, who had served as the team's defensive backs coach for four years, takes over as coordinator.

Needless to say , it will be another great year to watch football. I wish every sport was as unpredictable. Who knows, maybe the Texans will be in the superbowl this year??? I doubt it, but we'll see!

I think I'm still losing sleep over the way the playoffs ended last year. Hopefully Sherman grew some you know what and will go for it next time. I don't like Ed getting fired, he made the right call. The corners and safetys just plan blew it. That would of never happed if old Butler were still playing. Whats up with Mckensie, he wants out. I wish they would of made some moves this off season. No more Favre retiring talk, hes not that old and can still play. Glad to see Joe Johnson gone. I'm out. GO PAck

The Packers are trying to swing a trade for Randy Moss.
Now that they have a Couch and a Davenport they want to add a Lazy Boy....

Half of the Packers team needs a haircut. I hate the braids that stick out of the helmet. On the other hand, when a player gets burned deep, helps you know who got burned. smile.gif

Farve is a great player, but as he gets older, I think he will start to miss games. Toughness only can go so far, and he is the toughest QB. I think he will miss 2-3 games this year.

I think the Pack will be better this year!!
You see I heard that all summer Donatell had the defense working solely on stopping 4th and 26!!!!!! WITHOUT MCKENZIE!!!

Go Vikes!!

Yes, since Green Bay plays in the weakest division in the NFL.....they have a chance.

He, he......just kidding guys. Not a Vikings fan and can't wait until the Seahawks come back to town for the rematch on Dec. 12th but Minnesota wins the central hands down this year.

Someone who supposedly has a "close connection" to the Vikings has told me that since Farve is a free agent this year he's waiting until final cut to come over to the Vikes?

I don't think that would be a good idea. . . expecially if they put him in as QB over Cullpepper! I don't know if I could cheer for him after hating him so very, very long.

Problem with your mention of Favre is that he signed a lifetime contract 3/2/01

Can't blame the Vikings for wishful thinking. Maybe they're thinking after Farve retires he could explain the plays to Culpepper.

Who was player of the week?

Culpeper now is better than Farve. Maybe not 10 years ago(of course Daunte was in High School) but that doesn't mean much this season.

And Daunte isnt even in his prime yet! Once Favre retires, the Pack are done.
It's been a long ride Packers fans, but the train is pulling into the station and it's time to end your little journey. It will be sad to see the Pack trailing the Vikes as well as the Lions and Bears in a year or two.....I'm not really sad, just trying to prepare you for your inevitable reality grin.gif

Vikes will win it all this year and will string together enough championships to erase all of our nightmares.

No way, they will bring Tim Couch back in and he will return the pack to another first round playoff loss.

Sorry about the typo buzz. Well noted. I'm glad you guys really think the Vikings will be much better this year. A little of the Packer enthusiasm must be rubbing off. It would take a whole lot of championships to balance the suffering Vikes fans have had to endure.

OUCH is right. I started to watch the game, but it was really nice outside. After about ten minutes, I decided to go fishing and just listen to the game on the radio. That was the best decision I made yesterday. If they play like that this season, I'll be doing a lot of fishing.

Who is in last place in the North division? For you packer fans we are talking about this year, modern day football, not in the 1960's, Not 10 years ago, this century, this season.

Another opening day fiasco at the John Deere Dealership.

The Bears are the big rivalry for the packers aren't they? That had to sting.

OUCH! OUCH!! OUCH!!! It's a good thing Packer fans are loyal, because there isn't much to be happy about with their performances. I'm thinking this might become a long season.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
