Hey all,<P>Made my first trip up there the weekend before last (35 Below wind chill!)-looking for pike. We went out at just east of Warroad. Hung a left from the access and drove about a mile or so towards the river. We sat on 8 ft of water ALL day...2 small pike...were we in a bad spot or did the cold just shut them down that day? Anyone have any hints for Muskeg??? Will be heading back up on Saturday morning. Thanks for the advice!

rodbuilder,<P>I don't think that you were in that bad of a spot. I suspect the weather had a lot to due with your fishing. Pike, especially the bigger ones do not seem to like bad weather much.<P>I would work more depths than 8 feet. Work from 8 out to 14 until you find some fish. I usually start at 10-12 then move in or out.<P>The area there from Springsteel over to Swift is usually pretty good, the later we go here the better it should get. Try and find a spot between there with as little people traffic as possible and it will pay off eventually. Good Luck.

Traffic can definately be a key. About 2 weeks ago, there were about 150 fisherman from swift ditch to Warroad and to the north. They can cover a lot ground with those tip ups. Don't be afraid to fish the water in 5 or 6 feet either.

Thanx for the advise guys, it IS appreciated. Is swift ditch that little rinky dink access just east of Warroad?

Ok, who else gets this feeling when the fishing is tough...<P>"There" is no better than "here." When your "there" becomes a "here" you<BR>will simply obtain another "there" that again looks better than "here."<P>with me?

I only had to read it twice and it became clear as could be. Well put " I've been there"

I prefer the fishing be fair over "there" and better right "here". -nunzio wink.gif

Isn't that the whole theory behind tip-ups? So you can fish over there AND here?
