I know our region isn't known for it's bass fishing (with the exception of the Chisago/Lindstrom area) state wide. However, most of us know different. These shallow, dirty lakes and rivers have some hawg largemouths and football proportion smallmouth.

Who's gonna hit it this weekend and where? Use secret code if you don't want to give up your honey hole. smile.gif

You know, thinking about bass fishing in this area, I tend to use some tactics that I wouldn't typically feel compelled to use in other regions of the state. Example, I really like big wind on these lakes. The fish push up shallow on fast breaks to torture all the little forage. I like big wind almost anytime I'm bassin', but it has major benefits here. I also like high water. Not a flood, but enough water to push some current through the lake.

Anyone else make any unique observations while fishing bass in our region of the state?

Good fishing skills to all this weekend.

Ray-I'll be hitting the Chisago Chain.. I will probably hit Green Lake, might hit Chisago as well... I also have to run up to the Brainerd area for a day this weekend too...

I on the other hand do not have the same love for the wind as you do. EXPECIALLY in the spring. I would rather have it glass calm. I like to throw a lot of weightless plastics in the spring, a heavy wind takes these lures out of the boat them days!

Good luck this weekend my brother!

I am in agreement with Exudedue on the wind!

Try as I might fishing windswept breaks I never seem to do real well... One thing I have noticed on these the lakes I fish around here is the bass seem to be extremely shallow, I have tried fishing the breaks with carolina rigs, jig worms, crankbaits all with minimal success! Here is to a gorgeous bass opener with flat water and a gentle fog rising from the lake as I start my boat in the wee hours!

Ray! Where ya heading this weekend? I am having a impromptu tourney out of my house, if you would be interested!

My region is better than yours!! You need to fish the great west metro. By the way. The Big V was great last weekend.

Hey, Mikey!

I like a challenge, so an East Central man I am. To be honest, I'll probably fish walleyes this weekend.

Glad to hear the V was on this past weekend. Any smalljaws?

Cory, I'm locked down at the cabin this weekend. When's the first Wednesday nighter.

Don't take me wrong, I'm not anti-technology.  Battery powdered items will always have their place.  I'm mean you don't want your girl friend or wife in the bedroom playing for their gas powered adult toys!!  That would be a bit loud and smokey!

That’s right. My 84 year old dad loves his electric chain saw. Light weight and quiet. Besides, at his age he’s not cutting a bunch. Where as myself I want something with more power and heavier duty.  Look at how many people have switched back to gasoline cars after running one in winter if you travel a lot.   As long as my strike master works I’ll keep using gas. Maybe my next will be electric, but who knows,  you can find used gas ones pretty reasonable as others buy electric.
