Good Luck and be Safe

Hooray for the opener! I wish to echo the sentiments above, and add a prayer for everyone's safety.

I dunno about more dead boats by the roadside on the Opener, though. I have always considered Memorial Weekend to be the champ for the "Trail of Beached Trailers". Saw one poor chump (I think it was last year) where you first saw a puff of smoke from the hub - I hit the brakes - Mrs. Jackpine says "what's happening" - the tire locked up - lots of black smoke from the now-skidding tire - tire blows - trailer begins see-sawing - boat/trailer and van pull over as sparks from the rim fly up..... Bummer!
Or the fellow whose trailer holding a new-looking runabout somehow came loose and ended up on its side in the ditch....
Or the guy with the Wenonah kevlar that came off the roof - with racks still attached to the canoe but not the car - and was thoroughly destroyed in the end over end, rolling, and skidding that followed. I stopped and put on the hazard lights, got out to see if anything could be done, but had to leave when the guy started crying.

Couple years back heading south out of Remer, a guy on a Harley passed us. A few miles later, we caught up with him and the deer he hit. The guy was airlifted to the St. Cloud hospital and later died, leaving behind and young wife and 6-year-old daughter in Brainerd. My kids don't talk much about it anymore. Drive safely.

I just wanted to wish everyone the best of luck on the opener this year. Be safe, be smart and have fun. I hope the opener marks the beginning of a very memorable, fun, fish filled 2004. Take the time to be thankful that you made another opener, and remember the ones who werent as fortunate, or for the many soldiers who are out risking there lives in sake of America, make sure to take another memory of the 2004 opener.
Good Luck to all!
Best Fishes

Another reminder along those lines huskiesplayer-

Check your trailer tires, bearings, lights, etc. so you and your boat make it to the lake in one piece. More dead boats on the side of the highway on opener than any other day of the year.
