Question for the pros:

My friend and I are going out Sat night. My question is, where do you fish after dark this time of year? Shallow rocks? Mud flats? Deep gravel? All of the above?

Easy- Mille Lacs has no thermocline so the fish will use the whole water colum. However their prefered water temp is 65-68. Last weekend i had a surface temp of 80. The mud can be a great place to get fish this time of year. The mud bottom holds cool water. I have two spots on the 8 mile where natural springs attract hords of bait fish. The deepest edges will hold fish all night. Also scan around "No Mans Land" which is just the open basin adjacent to the mud flats. 3/4 to a mile from the flat itself. Start from an edge and scan until you find lots of bait. The deeper the better. Anchor and bobber fish. Also its best to use "jumbo" leeches if you can still find them, the spring bait fish hatch is getting larger so try to match the hatch.. Good Luck

We've had excellent luck fishing deep rock or gravel and finding the transition lines when the mud meets the gravel or rock. This is often a ways from the obvious structure but is often productive. Watch your depth finder and look for signal changes.
