So what are the early reports for your guys camps. I hope better than ours pretty slow not that many deer moving. I think that the full moon had them moving alot more a night than usual. We so quite a few does as a party but didn't connect. Well I will be back up thurs and hopefully I can get mine in MN so that I can head into ND and get mine out there. Good luck to all of you that are still hunting and congrats to the ones that got the big one.

Saw a ton of deer moving, all day long. Total of 20-25 deer seen by myself from several different stands throughout the day. Could have shot shot a few does but held off. Good thing, I got a nice 12 point 30 minutes before dark. Woohoo!!!! He's getting caped right now and will go to the taxidermist.

Nice do you got any pitures to share of that monster. I need to be reminded every now and then that it is possible for a deer to grow a nice rack. Wish I could connect up with one like that.

We had our 5 deer for 3 hunters by 8:00am Sunday. Hunting near Brainerd, we saw more deer than we ever have in that area. We got a big 8 pointer Saturday and the rest were does.

We got three does for 3 people. Held out for bucks after that but never saw one. But its all good, plenty of meat for us smile.gif To bad I found out Von Hansons was doing mixed meat only, after I had already droped them off. I hope you all cleaned and hung your deer well!! smile.gif

4 of us got 2 bucks in the talmoon area on sunday. 1-8 point and 1 the same size with 1 goofy point sticking back over his ear. we stayed at the now listed Jessie View Resort and had a good vist with Tim & Rita. Nice people and a good deer / fish camp.
-14°F on the old thermometer on Sat. AM BRRR!

7 bucks, 1 doe for 12 guys as of noon on Sunday. Smallest buck was 5 pt, the rest were all 8+ - biggest 11 pt. Had to head home Sunday, but Monday the meat pole added another 11 pt and a monster 8 pt that out-did the rest of 'em I from what I'm told. Still waiting to see pics from the cousins.

We passed on a lot of smaller bucks to let 'em grow. "Whitetail Catch & Release" I guess you could call it? Catch 'em in the scope and let 'em go... smile.gif

Are you guys with these nice bucks hunting on private land, or it just that good where you are? I was just wondering because I have hunted some public land near Mora for 4 yrs. now and have only seen 1 spike buck. Normally I see at least a few does though but nothing like you guys are describing. I am not new to the sport either and I put in time scouting and checking stands and put in 10-12hrs a day in the woods, but I have only seen 1 doe that I took last Wed. Not that I'm complaining about only 1 deer, just wondering if I should try a different area, maybe further up north?

We're 6 for 6 so far with 4 bucks( A big 8, 6 and a couple of 4 pointers) and 2 does(management tags). We still have this weekend to get a few more.

I broke in my muzzleloader this weekend with a 4 point buck. Passed on several does and a few bucks that didn't offer a decent shot last weekend.

The this weather really put the damper on deer movement this weekend. Not much moving around. Hopefully things are better for next weekend. I've still have two kids who haven't filled a tag yet this year.

Wow that is a nice buck you got there viddles456. What part of the state are you hunting in?? Well things came together for my dad and I this last Fri. I got a 9point + 3 Sticker horns = 12 Points on Fri Morning and my dad got a pretty good Doe about 10 minutes after I got mine. Lucked out that is for sure only buck I saw in our camp but I'll take it. Start out in ND this past weekend the group I am hunting with has 3 does and 1 small buck so far. We have 3 buck tags left so probably going to get a little tough to fill out there but we'll keep on walking.

Great shots! Those are some nice bucks. I went this last weekend. I shot the only buck out of my party of seven, an 8-pointer with a narrow rack was hunkered down in a ditchline on my Dad's farm. Made the weekend. The rest of my pack is out hunting today while I'm handcuffed to this desk at work. At least I wasn't skunked.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
