Zumbro River/Wasioja Area

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I'll be camping near Wasioja this weekend on the Zumbro, and I was looking for some smallie info for that region. If anyone could help fill me in on some hot spots/lures for that area, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Never fished that stretch. However, I do recommend trying some top water with this heat! Rebel Pop -R's can be deadly. If they don't take the top water stuff, look for cover and throw some plastics into their hiding areas! Texas rigged 3 inch plastic crawfish. Other wise try some yellow spinners in rock lined runs or eddies adjacent to riffles or rapids!

I hope this helps and definitely let me know how you do! Keep the rods bendin'!! Jim W

I've fished above and below the bridge near Wasioja, but with limited success - 6-10" smallmouth. There are probably a few bigger ones in there, but you'd do better going somewhere between Mantorville and the bridge in Genoa on Co. Rd. 14. I use much of the same presentations as Jim W., along with #9 clown Rapalas, Jr. Thundersticks and 1/16-1/8 oz. jigs with 2 or 3" Power Grubs or 3" Power Tubes - pumpkinseed or camo color. I haven't used topwater baits much for smallmouth, but will definitely be giving that a try!

Unfortunately the weather kept us from getting too much fishing done. The little bit of fishing we did get in didn't prove very successful. Oh well. Next time!!!

Don't take me wrong, I'm not anti-technology.  Battery powdered items will always have their place.  I'm mean you don't want your girl friend or wife in the bedroom playing for their gas powered adult toys!!  That would be a bit loud and smokey!

That’s right. My 84 year old dad loves his electric chain saw. Light weight and quiet. Besides, at his age he’s not cutting a bunch. Where as myself I want something with more power and heavier duty.  Look at how many people have switched back to gasoline cars after running one in winter if you travel a lot.   As long as my strike master works I’ll keep using gas. Maybe my next will be electric, but who knows,  you can find used gas ones pretty reasonable as others buy electric.

This is the bait frig at L&M in Virginia, the other day. Also, added Highway 65 bait.

I think electric items have their places, I just don't think large commercial jobs are going to be able to work well with them. Can't see a logging crew out in the woods all day changing batteries!
