Fishing Namakan

Recommended Posts

OO Buckshot

Hi All, first time poster, long time fisherman. Last year stayed on Cutover Island and had a great time fishing. This year we are heading to the East end of Namakan. We will be there June 15-23. Would like info on campsites around Blind Pig, Your Island or My Island, are they as nice as on Kabby? Is the best way to get there through Crane Lake? I heard there was an outpost store on the Canadian side of Namakan, is this true? Any Fishing info would be nice too, might save us some time finding the eyes. Thx to you all.

Polar Bear

Buckshot, the easiest way to the east end of Nam is from the Ash river.

that "canadian outpost"...you were inquiring about is actually on the east side of upper sandpoint lake(canadian side)by harrison's narrows... i'll be camping in grassy bay in 2 weeks... will be going for supplies there i'm sure...unless there's another canadian outpost on namakan i'm not familiar with or maybe it's moved to namakan...

Thank you Polar Bear and Jon. smile.gif Glad to hear about that outpost store in the area.
Other than a Canadian licence do we need any other permits for customs to fish Canadian waters?
Good luck on the fishing trip Jon, wishing you fair weather and a hot bite.

Buckshot,
I believe that you will need an Ontario remote border crossing permit to land or fish their waters, unless there is a customs office at the outpost.
I dont have my map with me but there are many nice camping spots in that area, some with sand beaches. I would try jigging/rigging around islands using your electronics to find fish. Dont be afraid to look deeper than you might expect, down to the 30' areas. This area should fish very similar to Kabetogama.

Thanks Xplorer, Infomation we need to check out. And we will be trying out the fishing tips also, got more electronics on our boat than a real fisherman needs to have. But as you all know "He who dies with the most toys wins".

GRIZ

Buckshot, if you are staying on blind pig island, Bergers Resort is also a outpost located near lady rapids just east of where you are staying. They have a store there with gas and bait. Say hi to Lori if you go there, she runs the store.

My parents were up yesterday and Wednesday and they did pretty good. Out in the mud in about 33-34 feet. Lots of boats were trolling but they did well looking for pods of fish and then spot-locking over the top of them and jigging with leeches and frozen shiners.

Hi, I’m looking for a fresh report for this weekend. Thanks in advance! Good Fishing!

Is the water starting to recede on the lakes East of Orr? I heard it was really high on Myrtle. We're coming up to Black Duck in a week or so, just wondering if things are getting back more towards normal.

I’ve fished sylvan heavily the last two years. Done very well. Many nice pike, bass, walleye, and bluegill. For pike trolling shadraps pretty much any where will get you all the 20”-25” pike you want. Plenty of dence cover all over for bass and that is the usual bass presentations. And for gills in the spring the channel between the two bays was VERY good this past spring went three days in a row and got 2 limits each time ( two angles in the boat) and relesed many many more.  Also the panfish limit on sylvan is 5 per person so be aware of that. I was out there 2 weeks ago and did ok. Again two limits of nice gills and a handful of pike but it took a lot of work to find them. I’m unsure of the walleye fishing out there but have heard it’s a good lake. Im not an expert on sylvan but know a little so hope this helps ya out. Good luck!

The last two times on the river have been slow to say the least. Trolled Shipping channels, river channels, and all the flats. Crawler harnesses and crank baits. Anybody having any luck out there?

If the water is that clear and you can see 17-20 feet down, the fish will be very spooky.  And if the sun is out, they will be looking for relief from the sun in the form of shade.  Night time might actually be a better option.

Not terrible.  But they can be merciless, I will tell you.
