My Brother just bought a place on Gilchrist lake. Can any of you guys on this forum tellme something about this lake? Any info you can pass on would be apreciated. Never fished out in that area of the state but will probably have to start now as I'm sure he will be looking for some free labor to help him with various tasks. thanks

Gilchrist is a pretty good bass lake. It's also one of the first lakes in the area to get Eurasion Milfoil. Here's some info from the sportsman's connection maps:

FISHING INFORMATION: The Largemouth Bass in Gilchrist attract anglers to this pretty little lake in southern Pope County. The lake was reclaimed in the mid to late ‘60’s to eliminate the rough fish. This has resulted in a fishery that generates fast-growing Bass, some in the 6- to 7-pound category. Bass, which average in the 2- to 3-pound range, are fished mostly in the weedbeds on the north side of the lake. There is also some good shore fishing at the outlet along the south end. Walleyes, stocked routinely, show up in anglers’ creels and are usually of nice size. Apparently the Yellow Perch forage base contributes significantly to Bass and Walleye growth.

You're also not far from Minnewaska and the rest of the lakes in the Alex area...

good luck and good fishing!
