lake oscar

hi everyone,

Can anyone give me some info on fishing lake oscar for bass? I've heard about how high the water levels have risen in the past ten years. Are there any submerged objects on the lake that could ruin a prop that should be noted. Also, the dnr website mentions something about the access not being the greatest, is this true?
anyone know of any hotspots or general areas of the lake that are productive for bass.

thanks a lot,
kt

kt....there are some dandy fish in lake oscar. 4 fish bag in a little club tourney came in at 17lbs. 6 lbers are not uncommon. there's a lot of timber around...the levels have come up considerably in the last decade. "smallie" can give you more details.....i'll make sure he posts tomorrow..

good luck and good fishing!

Kt,
Lake Oscar is one of my favorite lakes to go to to catch some trophy fish.
All I fish on lake Oscar is black and blue jigs with a pork trailer.

You might need to have some patience because this is ussually not a numbers lake.

There is some really good deeper water on both sides of the access with milfoil. The point just east of the access has some good milfoil. Else go fish timber and silverdollar weeds. Top water frogs also work good on this lake.

I had over 17lbs on 4 fish on this lake its a real big fish lake. Fall fishing can be really good out there.

Kt,
No problem, it will be well worth your time out there. It can be alot of work fishing out there because the silver dollar weeds wrap in your trolling motor.

But don't let that frustrate you also some areas on that lake that look impossoble to get into hold some big fish.

I mainly fish by the acces in the milfoil but also spend alot of time on the north west corner in the timber.

There is something in the corner that can be very key. You figure that out and you will put a 5-7 lbs fish in the boat.

Just remeber this clue it looks tough to get into its small but worth it.

Let me know how this pans out.

The very north east end of the lake north of the island you will see that it open up into another bay and just on the outside of it it makes a point with timber east side can be productive also.

To call this summer "busy", would be the understatement of the year for me.....

Been out of town for most of my fishing as well.  Looking forward to being in the boat around home in the coming weeks.  It’s just never for the amount of hours I get on board for the out of town trips.  More like 2-4, maybe 6 hours at best here.  Never the marathon 12-15 hour days I’ve been blessed to have a few times this season so far. I did just walk down to the river to make a few casts for my evening fix and picked up a 17.5 smallie on a Pop R.  That’ll have to do for today. 😉

Was up on the big V for the last week with the family.  First time for all of us on the lake.  And for a newbie, it was really tough fishing all week long.  We did better than every group we talked to in our resort, but that is not saying much.  Because of weather and other things, we fished for on 5 days, and managed just about 5 limits of Walleye total.  Was a great week to be on the lake though, what a beautiful lake, and everything else was awesome.  Just need better information for next visit.

Thanks for the compliment.  I've been up in the Cass Lake area the past few weeks.  Did very well on eyes but really struggled to find the crappies and I wasn't alone.

This surprises me Borch.  5-6 years ago when I was  living in the St. Cloud area, if you looked up "Mr. Consistency"  in the dictionary, your mugshot would come up.  Things must be all whacked out.

I am a catfish guy, but until now, i was unaware that i can legally use small bullheads for bait. However, I have never actually targeted them before, so i am just wondering if anyone knows of any "hotspots" for bullheads (if there is such a thing)

Pretty quiet in here.  I've been fishing out of town the past 2 weeks.  Hope to fish the area lakes this week.  Heard reports of a good day crank bite on the chain but not much else.  With the full moon coming up this week may try some evening trolling.  Anyone else having any luck?

Haven’t fished the river for weeks and came home to high, muddy water so I doubt I will for another week.  I’d focus on shorelines and whatever backwater I could find at this time if I did go.

It was slow for me Tuesday afternoon and Thursday in Frazer / Smarts Bay. Wednesday was very good in 20-25 feet leeches / crawlers on a Lindy or a jig. Absolutely beautiful weather!

My wife and I had a good morning on Friday with bottom bouncers, spinners and crawlers in 20-24 ft.  Caught 9, threw back 3 18-19 in, 2 13-14 in.
