last year the glow jigs were working pretty well after daylight hours. the red glow seemed pretty hot for a while but later in the year it didn't really seem to matter. the gold or silver crome type finishes seemed to work good on the overcast days when you could catch them during the day.

Glow jigs were what we used last year and had good success with them. Started out with number 6 hooks, then got bold after seeing the size of the fish and went to a number 4 hook. The size didn't scare them off any, and may have helped because of the wider gap in the hook, which allowed for easier hooksets. We also used pretty fair sized minnows. White jigs, with a dab of pink and a sprinkle of glitter is what we had on the line. One little extra that was discovered due to my laziness was the red beaded bobber stop I had on my line from slip bobbering earlier in the year was left on the line. I already tied the jig on and didn't want to waste time retying! I don't know if that little bead bouncing off the jighead while I worked the lure imitated something or if the noise drew them in out of curiosity, but I had 5 or 6 on the ice before I could convince my buddy to give it a shot. We left with 2 limits of huge fish that day in a little over 2 hours of fishing. That little bead stayed on the line all season. Good luck!

It doesn't matter if you find the fish. Last year I was catching my limit in 25 minutes with a plain hook and minnow, bigger the better.

Fished for the first time Saturday. Kiddo and I got 3 crappie and 5 perch in about 2 hours. Bait of choice? For me, a well charged glow jig and small minnow. Size 6 jig or smaller if the throat is opened up a bit. Trick is to hook 'em in the big hunk of meat in the middle of the upper lip. Fish various depths trying to stay off the bottom to avoid too many perch. Waters kinda cloudy? Should settle in time. Out again tomorrow. Will report.
