When I was a kid growing up in the 70s, my folks would always take me up to Stoney Point resort/campground for walleye opener or one of the following weekends.
Just wondering if that place is still up and running and if it's a decent place to camp (it has been 25 years)? I'd like to rekindle some old memories!!!
We used to do pretty darn good off Stoney Point (but I don't recall there being a little & big stoney???) drifting Lindy rigs and minnows for walleyes... can you still hammer 'em there?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be great!
JA

JA, I stay at Stoney Pt. camp groungs when I go up. I fish for Muskie, I'm not too shure about the eyes. If I make a week of it this year I'll try for some eyes. when I go up its usualy just for a day or two, so I stick to the monsters.
I'll have to rate it at #1. Its the most comfortable place I've found. the camp sites are spaced enough so you don't have to hear the people next to you all night. Most camp grounds are limited for space, and try to cram too many people in for the money. Stoney is first come first serve.

Is there an electrical outlet at this campsite for charging batteries?

YES, there is electricity.
I have yet to find a more comfortable camp for the price. you can go spend hundreds for a camp with a cable TV hook-up, but thats not what I go fishing or camping for.
If your looking for all the bennifits of a radison, don't go to stony, If your looking for the most peaceful and clean camp where you dont have to cross tent poles with the next camper or hear [PoorWordUsage]...music at 2:00a.m. then look no further.

Stoney Campground is the only campground that I have seen that does have electricity, running water, toilets, showers, firewood (you can purchase) RV hookups and disposal...etc. It is a great place and very comfortable for even the fussiest people. I love camping there.

J.A. I fished Leech Lake last year for the opener and found that Stoney Point was okay, but we did a lot better on several other points. E-mail me for a few hotspots and details. [email protected]

.....it wasn't mentioned but, a good resort
or campground, in my opinion, allows
the fisherman to leave his/her gear in
the boat overnite, etc.,
......also need to charge battery's without
taking them out of boat...
.....I know you can't do that at Sugar Point
resort on Leech.

Yes.....It is still up and running and a very nice camp area. They did some improvements to the landing area a few years back. I have been using the boat landing there on opening day for many years but have not stayed at the campground. It surely fills up on the opener so you would need to get there a day or two early to get a spot.
The fishing on Big Stoney Point is sometimes good and sometimes bad for the opener. Alot of people fish the point. I am hoping for a good opener this year, both weather and fishing. Two years ago we caught our limit in
about four hours.
Al-

Central America. Focus. We almost went for a local overnight crappie run but the daughter’s septic froze so I got to work the brown trout pond through a 4 inch hole. It was opener today afterall. 😉

Ok, how did we get from crappies and freezing temps to pond slime eaters in south America? Focus! 🙄

The locals there shoot ducks but don't hunt them. If they see a bunch on a pond they'll sneak up and water swat them but it's strictly for food not sport. My buddy runs an outfitter so him and I will hunt a few days and scout then I'll help him with a group whose coming mid week. He's from there. Hoping he can come to Canada next year with me. He's never seen or shot a goose

Awesome kind of trip! I figured there would be a local benefit if you couldn’t bring them back (not saying you can’t). Having a connection down there is pretty cool! We donated a good share of meat to the village in Kotzebue, AK instead of shipping it all back. Pretty pricey and they really appreciated it. Win/win.

I don't bring them back, eat a lot then clean them for the village. Some like them plucked and some like the breasts cut out. It's really remote where I go and the locals live off the land. I know they want me to go get some doves for them too. My buddy is a local so we'll probably go get a deer as well for some venison for some of the elders in the community
