Hey musky hunters, how was the weekend to ya? I live in Illinois and have been fishing pretty regularly most of the year already, I'm glad to hear that you guys finally got to do some real fishing.Hope all went well but would like to know for sure. Anyway I will be up in about a month and will continue to check this Forom for any and all post relating to the most elusive esox. Good luck in your hunt, Pinks

Hey Pinks

Was only able to do a couple hrs of muskie fishing Sat and Sun. Nothing on Sat, not even a follow and I was fishing in some pretty delicious spots. Sun I had two lazy follows from two 40 inchers that were really scarred up probably from spawning. Open water trolled a bite too but nothing. It will water temps around 60. It will only get better. :-)

Pinks,

I ‘saw’ a few fish. None on the end of my line, but there were a few that seemed content to swim up to the boat and hang out for awhile. I would have to agree with the water temp theory. Hopefully this coming weekend toothy will be more aggressive.

Hey Pinks,
Most of the muskie's are still in their post spawn mode. The action should pick up abit when the water temps get into the 60's.
I had 3 follows including a 50" class
fish on the west end yeaterday. I'll be
hitting them hard all week, I'll keep you informed. smile.gif

Bonnie and I went on our annual Musky Opener hunt working our way from the island up to the west end and had a blast.
We were really only looking to spot NEW locations and spot fish, but we worked hard and had some fun.
Even saw Guideman one day mid lake in Big Bay on our east end.
I did my little Musky dance and with a wave and some kind of sign language he was off to parts unknown!
LOL
Three fish in the boat for us in three days fishing the West end.
Bonnie caught a nice 43.5" Saturday night at sunset.
I had Two that could have been sisters, each on different days.
Sunday early a 40" & Monday at 1 PM a 40.5.
Nothing casting to or on the Rocks in Big Bay, everything we saw on the east end was in the weeds or close by. We did not get them to follow or eat anything.
Went back to the rock and deep weeds on our way west each day.
Nothing.
Shallow weeds, with deep water near by in the warmest water on the West end did it for us.
6 inch Gliders and 8 inch plastic on 1/2 oz jigs worked real slow on the inside and deep weed line.
Long boat ride, but fun.
Six Bonus Pike between 8 & 12 LB also and one real nice 25 inch Walleye.
We also found three NEW cabbage beds and five super rock points & a few nice humps we have never fished.
All in all a great Sat, Sun and Mon.

Keep on Rock'en!

Good work guys! Sounds like a fun time, gotta love it. Hope to hear more about the beast of lake Vermillion. Eagerly anticipating my trip in early July, keep a brother posted as to the good news, and Keep on Keepin on, Pinks

Would any of you mind sharing where the good weedgrowth is on the west side. I'll be looking for some pike. Sunset bay usually has some good cabbage there, and Ive got some fish there early in the year. I may make a trip down to muskego bay and the bay next to it if the weed growth is going good. Are there weeds back in norwegian bay this time of year? Thanks.

Went in to Lucky 7 to get some crappie minnows today. All they had were crappie minnows and fatheads. She said to call in advance for the opener, couldn't say for sure if they'd have rainbows, shiners, etc for opener!

Been out couple times this last week. Between the rain and wind there really was only one day this past week where it was actually warm out fishing.  Water temps are low mid 50s yet, not much change from last week.  Fish are still holding out off the first break on some area lakes and right up in the boat channels and back bays of others.   Been keeping it pretty simple as far as tackle used. Having the best luck with the lil hustler tubes under a small float or throwing the Bobby Garland baby shads with a 1/32 jig head.  The Bobby's have definitely been my big fish catcher this spring.

The water looks low but appears to be on the rise. We will be there  the week after opener. I have been going since 1981 and enjoying the experience. We love the variety of fish we catch and release each year. Ice went out a bit earlier than in years past. Water may be warmer and plan to target some crappies. We fish predominately in Sand Point as we camp. Good luck all and tight lines. We may consider the hike to Lake Lucille which we did 2 years ago.

On an off light precipitation today. Hoping the weather this weekend will be nice so I can get out and crappie fish and check the weather. My yard has standing water and the driveway is a mess. Lot of lakes are near standard water levels which is good. Heard they are done stripping eggs on cut foot. Shaping up to be a good opener. Last year fished open water 60+ days and 28 different lakes. Hopefully bump both those numbers up this year
