Beware of the honey-do project's!

You see the new Sportmans Guide cataloge yet, they have come great Colombia gear in there! The Quad parka's at a great price too!

"Guide Gear" snow pants are worth a peak to Paul!

They also have them Blizerd Mickey's for 30 bucks in camo, black and white.

Ask for a set of cataloges, camp, hunt, winter wear, all of them have some differant great deals!

Them Honey-do projects mean you need a bit of new gear to keep warm with, right?

Paul,

My condolences. However, I have been known to do girlfriend or spousal interventions from time to time, in the name of more fishing. Sometimes works, sometimes, well, let's just say I don't get invited back by said fishing buddy's wife/girlfriend. Lucky for me, I've got a pretty great girlfriend that somehow just seems to understand that often, a guy just needs to hit the water or woods.

By the way, don't mean to rub it in (really), but the walleyes are going good on Round in the early mornings and evenings. Hope to see you out there soon, Paul.

Yep Toad, I use to brag how understanding my girlfriend was. 4 to 5 fishing trips a week. Every weekend out of town during waterfowl season. How could I find a better woman? So, I married her. And things have changed, not suddenly but gradually. Fishing is now 2 to 3 times a week. Out of town trips occur once a month max. These women wear you down. They are an outdoorsman's equivalent of the Anti-Christ. Be careful what you brag about. It will change when you get married.

Bornofice,

You're scaring me-- please make it stop!-- just kidding.

Guess I've probably heard what you're saying from about every "now married" friend I've got (come to think of it maybe that's why I remain single, albeit with the same gal, for the past three years).

Well at any rate, I'm not so naiive as to try & tell you married fellas what's what. So for now, let me just say-- I'll wave at you painting the picket fence as I tool on by, beelining toward the nearest lake. Hope to see you on the-- whoops, guess I won't be seeing you on the ice afterall . . .

Well, I guess I have to say that I do have a very understanding spouse. When I think about the week off in June for Boundry Waters trip, the week off in August for the Canadian fly in, the 10 days for the SD pheasant hunt etc etc, I could be a alot worse off - as I have seen some of my friends end up!!! It's just that my timing was very poor for this project!!! So Toad - walleyes on Round...Hmmmm!!!

YIKES!

she-devils and fishin!

The first thing to go is the red sports car.
Second thing that happens is ya start looking at vans.
Third thing is a funny little bucket to hold that little bundle of sqealing burping baby.
Then comes "tax deductible dependents"
Boat gathers dust, shotguns in the attic, sleepness nights, even though you repeatedly tell 'em "Hey if I could breast feed I'd have a set for it!"

You finally open the tackle box and someone wants to buy them antique lures!

I think we should have a super wives and super-girl friends forum, I don't dare suggest a "super domestic partner forum"!

We could then show the she-devils that a kinder gentler side would let us refresh ourselves on the water, ice and in the woods. (With a trip or two to your favorite water hole in between.)

Toad, BEWARE! It will happen.

Funny you should mention a the red sports car.....shortly after I got married my new spouse informed me that my 1970 1/2" Camero rode to rough with the air shocks pumped full and I had to sell it and buy a decent car! Ouch!!! I sure wish I had tha car now!!

That's it! Time to head for the sticks and build me a hut. There's gotta be a perfect spot somewhere along that perfect river. One that's got a spot ideal for setting lines for catfish, while running the deadliest trapline in history. Gotta be a good spot there to bathe once in a blue moon, too . . .

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
