I have a friend visiting me this weekend to go after some piggies in the Red, but I haven't fished the Red in a long time....I don't know the art of catfishing very well.
My friend knows a lot about cattin' in the Minnesota/Mississippi Rivers, so I will have him show me what is what.

What kind of structure, if any, do I look for to catch cats? Deeper water, shallow? Current, no current? Is a boat best or can shore fishing be sufficient?

I want to catch some Goldeyes for bait, but how does one go about doing that? Are these fish everywhere in the river or in certain locations? What other kind of bait works to catch fish?

Thanks.

HEY CD, I CAN'T TELL YOU MUCH ABOUT RED RIVER STRUCTURE BUT A RIVER IS A RIVER. I CAN TELL YOU I WAS UP TO BRECK LAST WEEK AND CAUGHT A WHOLE BUNCH OF GOLD EYES BELOW THE LITTLE SPILLWAY DAM ON THE N.D. SIDE BY THE CATFISH STATUE. I WAS THROWING A SILVER/BLK SHAD RAP (#5) INTO THE FAST WATER JUST 8 OR 10 YARDS DOWN FROM THE FROTH. I DIDN'T GET SNAGGED BUT I KEPT IT RUNNING HIGH OFF THE BOTTOM.
WET NETS!
