Just got off the lake there is about 13 inches of ice and a lot of fishing pressure. The lake is normally good in the winter the guys i talked to said they are having bad luck on the eyes and this paper article i read said the crappies were biting but i doubt that i fished hard all week and couldnt find them. I ended up catching some northerns and a few eyes.

utilityk, where is your place, I have a cabin right outside peterson's bay. We are on the west shore line. Fished the drop you were talkin about last weekend and this weekend but didnt get a bite. Only caught one eye and it was in 11' of water. Very strange.

Chad, We rent a seasonal spot at a little trailer park "the loaf and leisure" on the west shore in the bay just north of peterson.
Have a 32' prowler my brother and brother in law are in the same spot. We have the white and blue bayliners you might see @ those docks on the wknds. Crappies here (mtka.) are around 20' right now maybe 11' is to shallow?

Chad,
You must be down the road to the east of us.
Not much luck on minnetonka this wknd. one small eye and a couple perch. Hope the cold snap will get the ice right for the perm shack. Thanks for the info. will be up one of these days to fish F.I. By the way the eyes were shallow down here also.

Chad,
I do fish crappies in the spring. I have not done so on F.I but plan on it this spring. I see them all up by the bullrushes in Peterson bay fishing them really shallow. Have to hook up.

Chad,
Matter of fact I did catch a few there in may. We just came over to F.I. from Alexandria(lake Ida) fall of 2002(just hauled over our trailer and dropped it) so summer of 2003 was our first year on the lake. We really like the area and F.I. seems like a nice lake. Plenty of structure and the ripple runnin through it.

The shallower lakes are froze over and the deep ones are getting close.

I need to hit Linwood up as that is a lake I fished so much with my grandpa. Used to get lots of keeper gills and nice crappies and big pike out of there.

Lakes around Princeton are froze over or close. Lori lake had the most open water and lots of ducks. Silver lake capped over and stanchfield south and north mist froze over.

I saw enough ice on smaller lakes in the Crosslake area to know they are getting closer and colder to icing over!

On the main basin... For those fishing the lake, fishing has been good.  Most bays and harbors locked up with ice this past week, which has put a halt to the open water fishing.  At last report, there are good numbers of walleyes and saugers staged in traditional early ice locations across Pine Island and the entire south shore.  With fish location, numbers and fall success, LOW is primed for good early ice fishing. On the Rainy River... The Rainy River is still loaded with walleyes.  Some anglers made it out this week but single digits locked up any water not moving and it is pretty much done.  Anglers that got out had big numbers of walleyes to reward them, similar to previous week.  Up at the NW Angle... Ice is formed in back bays, harbors, on the angle inlet, from Young's Bay to Flag Island and across most of Flag Island flats.  Larger stretches of water or current areas still open.  Ice fishing will be here soon, but not yet.  Stay on staked resort ice trails when ice fishing begins.  Safety first.

I am a maki mino guy the 1 inch ones for gills and crappies. The xl mino is great for big crappies perch and eyes. I have used many of the maki plastics but I tend to have the best luck with white with red flakes mino. The poli was good as well.
