First Ice Lakes

I am planning on heading up to the Aitkin area on the 30th and would like some advice as to which lakes are good first ice lakes. When I say “good first ice lakes”, I don’t necessarily mean good for fishing but also good for safe ice too. Of course, catching fishing is always a bonus : ) . Any advice is appreciated.

I would try Hanging Kettle,Nord and Section 10.

Hanging Kettle is a good bet...However, stay away from the crowd in the 30 foot hole. Instead, head closer to the narrows in about 21-22 ft and fish the bottom. These fish are there pretty much all winter and rairly get touched.
