While messin' around with a float tube and an ultra-light, I figured out how to slaughter the bluegills and red eye rock bass. The fish appear to be spawning in about 4 ft. of water and right in the weeds. I used a slip bobber with a 1/32 jig, baited with wax worm. The little bait stealers were stripping the waxie off before the jig even sunk and the bobber wasn't even moved. So I switched to a small wire circle hook and strung the waxie on lengthwise. As soon as the bobber seemed to stop drifting with the wind, I started reeling (don't set a circle hook, just reel). As soon as I figured out the technique, I started catching one on every cast. Lots of fun on an ultralight. Caught bluegill, sunnies, rockies, and one hammer handle. All catch & release for me but good eating if you like cleaning a lot of pannies.
