Crappies on Aitkin Lake?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone caught any crappies on Aitkin lake during the summer months, if so, where and with what? I know the lake holds some huge sunnies so I assume there has to be crappies too. I've been fishing the lake for 15 yrs and haven't caught one yet. I've heard the lake has them but finding them is hard. Any help would be appreciated.

Depends on the part of the summer...

June usually means most CRappies bite in early morning and late evening in the reed beds.

July means cabbage, coontail, and inside weed edges in 5-10 feet of water...again morning and evening.

August has breakline and point fish, 12-18 feet of water, suspended...And they will usually feed all day.
