Will be up on Long Lake this weekend. Does anyone know what is happening on that lake. Took a couple big walleyes off that lake 3 years ago.

I just returned from long, and I will tell you your electronics will get a workout. On the north side of the lake, in front of Timberlane resort stay 16-20 ft, because the eyes are suspended. Use bottom bouncers, and troll slowly. Work south from the resort, and hit the old submerged road. Stay on the east side of the lake, or you will be visited by big toothy. The next spot will be a hump halfway down the lake in 7ft. of water. Troll around that early and late. Good luck!

Thanks Hatchet...We just got back from Long Lake a few minutes ago. We got lightninged out tonight. Started storming bad about 7:45. We have to make it up in 3 weeks. Does the lake do the traditional fall pattern thing with walleyes (fish major points and structure)? We took 2 really good walleyes on a point about a mile north of the south access on the east side of the lake. This was a couple of years ago and since then all we have caught are a few toothies and a few crappies. Again thanks for the info on the lake.

Try that submerged road, it forms a shallow under water dam, 30ft on south side, 1o-15 on the north side. This forms a big point just south of Timberlane resort. Also, try the stumps at the very south end of the lake.

I just returned from Long also on a family vacation. I fished for 'eyes only and did real well. Limits of nice fish were common in the morning's and evenings if so desired. Our group did a lot of catching and releasing. However, of course, we did keep enough for a couple of fries. Gotta do that. The weather was great except for last night. Nice lake...only my second time being on the lake and no fishing pressure. That was fine by me but the fish were sure on the chomp. You local boys should be out there every day.

I put the fish in the boat pulling cranks behind boards on a 24' deep weed flat. The fish were suspended, as Hatchet said, and they were just crushing the bait.

  • 2 weeks later...

Has anybody been out on Long lately? I would certainly hope so. What a great lake.

I am heading to Long tomorrow, will be there for a week. Last year our only luck came between 11pm and 2am on the submerged road Hatchett mentioned earlier. During that time, on 3 consecutive nights, we caught a total of 7 eyes all over 4 pounds.

Heading up to LV a week from today with the kids. Any advice for us? Staying on the West side but open to traveling if the weather permits.   The way the last few weeks have gone, might stay for good!!!

Do have Wi-Fi in your house. Your going to need that to work with any of the cameras that send a signal and video to your phone.  Hardwire is the best but battery power workers well for about two months then you have to pull them and recharge them.  It is nice to sit on a beach in Key West and keep an eye on your house when gone! 👌

With all the craziness in the world I’m looking at getting an outdoor security camera setup for my home. Anyone have ideas on what works well without a huge cost  and easy to do . Or is it better to go with a company to set it up.  We have recently had copper thefts in the area at farmers fields and bin sites and I know it will only gat worse as these things always do. I probably want something that hooks up to my phone as well and wondering if there is a good one with either battery life or if wired is better. Any thoughts are welcome.

Aren't they the ones that ran into problems about illegal bait? Anyone know how that turned out?

You launch on Moose Lake to get to the motorized portage. It's called Prairie portage. To get to the portage you put in at Moose Lake. From Moose you go into Newfound Lake. From Newfound you go into Sucker Lake. On Sucker is where Prairie portage is. There is a dock on the American side and on the Canadian side there is big sign welcoming you to Canada. Latourell's Resort runs the portage and the cost for the portage is $40 for a round trip.

Will that blond haired kid have that cool little orange boat in the show this weekend? Saw him driving around by Muskego Point a few times this summer.

Nope, there are parts of Basswood that allow motors.   Entry is from Fall Lake, and there is (I think) a motorized portage.   It is really popular in the spring...
