If I was fishing prairie on opener I would concentrate on 2 difernt places. where the river comes in and where it goes out. fish fairly shallow (water is stained)with a 1/8 oz fireball or gumball jig and minnow. It is usually a good early walleye lake
Good luck
Jason

IceRookie; I have fished Prairie early many times and depending on the weather it can be pretty good for walleyes and pike. I usually fish inside the Gorge. This is where the lake narrows to a channel on the south end of the lake. Be carefull in the area as it is full of rocks. It looks just like a Canadien shield lake in there. Anyway, use 1/8 oz jigs like Jason said with shiners or chubs. Try to fish as vertical as possible to avoid snags. There are usually lots of fish in this channel until around Memorial day. Good Luck.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll be out there for sure! Do either of you know how that lake is for panfish? I may go up the weekend before opener just to scope the lake out...may as well try for some craps and sunnies!

Prairie lake holds a lot of crappies and gills. The crappies are small but eaters, 8-10" while the gills can run very decent, up to about 9". The crappies should still be up shallow when you're here, so check under docks, around beaver houses, etc. Good luck and let us know how you do.
