I am going to be heading over from Duluth on the 23rd and wondering how things have been going on Winnie? Last year I was out there earlier in the season and did alright (I guess we missed the big perch action). Any suggestions on where to go, what folks are using? Any tips would make the trip all that much better. What about other area lakes?

winnie has been alittle bit hit and miss for the walleyes latly and the perch have been pretty decent as far as the bite goes.I would head out of high banks and fish the humps out there on top20ish ft or the sides28-30 ft look around till you find them. get a good jigging spoon tipped with a minnow head if they are there but wont bite go alittle smaller like crappie jig and see if that helps
good luck
Jason

Go to Leech lake instead and go out off of Battlepoint.
Winnie needs a rest as far as the Jumbo Perch goes and the walleye bite has been slow according to all reports i have recieved.
It will be a few years before we see winnie recover from overharvesting of Perch.
Of course if you want Eelpout, well, theres still a number of those to be had wink.gif

Have plenty of eelpout here in the St. Louis River, and they even glow in the dark!! I know nothing of Leech Lake! I am somewhat familiar with Winnie and have fished the area that Jason is talking about. What about Dead Horse, or other panfish lakes? Coming over with my dad and would really like to have some action. I don't get a chance to get out much due to being a new father so a fun weekend would be nice. Thanks everyone!
